This guest house has been run by the same family for 35 years and in some respects is showing its age.||||Owner Prabu was friendly and has excellent English.||||Do not stay here unless you can cope with climbing about 70 stairs. Some of these are not at standard height.||||My room had two singles pushed together. Linen and pillows were good, although it lacked a top sheet.||||With the temperature down to eight degrees Celsius overnight, the lack of heating may be of concern to guests from warmer climates such as many Indians.||||The room had a chest of drawers and a luggage shelf plus two small bedside tables. There was no chair to sit on.||||Power points were well placed bedside. Lighting was basic with one globe and a window fluro tube in the bedroom.||||I was asked whether I preferred an evening or morning shower. At 0700 hours there was no hot water. I had to wait until 0755 before reception answered and was informed the hot water would be available in half an hour. It took about 20 minutes. Regulating the shower to avoid either scalding hot or very cold water was challenging. ||||At Rs.1360 for the tariff, one does not expect the Ritz but surely 24 hour hot water ought be available. The handbasin was cold water only. The room easily fogged with the shower on.||||The toilet was obviously quite modern. Soap, but not shampoo, was provided.||||The room had a view of dirty Ooty Lake. Perhaps some of its colour may be from tannins of Australian Eucalypt. - gum - trees widely, and unwisely as tgey are not oart if local ecology - planted, but I will not be drinking the lake water.||||The cafe did not seem to be open at 0855 hours. With no table and chair in the room, I did not want to eat on the bed.||||WiFi was largely excellent.||||It was an easy 350 metre walk to the railway station for highly recommended trains to Coonoor, but unfortunately the steam-operated rack railway 1 in 12 gradient down to Mett. Was closed for 10 days due to a landslide and then heavy follow up rains. Thus was most disappointing.||||There was no night traffic noise and thankfully no smoke smells.||||The upper level has a small garden.||||I could not switch on the small TCL flatscreen TV in the morning but this may have...
Read moreOur two-day stay at this establishment left us with mixed feelings. While the tranquil ambiance was a definite highlight, unfortunately, several issues marred our experience.
Firstly, the owner seemed more focused on corporate protocols than genuine hospitality. Despite the peaceful atmosphere, we encountered a distressing incident late one night when the police attempted to enter our room without proper justification. As two women traveling alone, this was incredibly unsettling, and we had to firmly refuse their entry. Fortunately, they left without further disturbance, but the lack of explanation or concern from the owner was disconcerting.
Furthermore, our last day brought about additional disappointment. When we requested to extend our stay due to unforeseen circumstances with our transportation, the owner drastically increased the nightly rate, citing a holiday surcharge. This sudden price hike was exorbitant and unreasonable, leaving us with no choice but to seek alternative accommodation for the final night.
On top of these issues, the lack of assistance from staff, particularly with heavy luggage and the presence of monkeys on the premises, added to our frustration. While the helper assisted us upon check-in, there was a noticeable absence of help during check-out, and the monkey problem resulted in additional inconvenience.
Despite our efforts to maintain cleanliness by disposing of waste properly, the presence of monkeys led to a messy aftermath, further highlighting the need for better management of the property's surroundings.
While the serene atmosphere initially drew us to this establishment, the issues we encountered, including the intrusion by the police, unreasonable price hikes, and lack of adequate assistance, ultimately overshadowed the positive aspects of our stay. We hope that the management addresses these concerns to ensure a more pleasant experience for...
Read moreIt's a very average stay in Ooty. Please don't go by the photos, the photos are old and the guest house has lots of wear and tear. Our experience here was very disappointing.
We had booked a room which had almost no light, was very dull and had lots of huge mosquitoes which we killed ourselves. The towels provided by them were very old and used. There was not enough water in the bathroom, we were stuck without bath and toilet for 2 hours wasting our half day tour plan. The next day, we had a tour booked at 9.30 am but again there was no water in the bathroom at all. We asked for hot water bucket at 8 am but the staff provided us water at 9.45 am and we had to hurry and get ready in 15 mins as the staff member rescheduled our trip to 10 am. We were ready by 10 am but the tour person left without taking us. All this waste of time made us book another local tour which we didn't want to do but were left with no option.
Second day we were given another room which was good in built, vibe and furniture but while cleaning the room, the staff left the room open which brought more mosquitoes than the earlier room along with insects. When we reached the room in the night, we had to kill many mosquitoes for almost 1/2 an hour before I went out and brought a mosquito coil myself. When I complained that night about the mosquitoes, the owner said "I can't do anything more and it's okay if you are not happy with the room."
The location is not the best either, the road exactly in front of the guest house had lots of traffic jams and honking almost all 3 days of our stay. The area isn't clean nor the restaurants on the either side of the guest house are highly recommended. Only stay here if you get top level rooms and you are very...
