Ndalem Mbak Charly is a budget homestay ran by an Indonesian-Dutch family roughly 6.5 km from the center of Yogyakarta. I chose to stay here because it was closer to Prambanan and easy to get onto the main highways to the temples (traffic near the center city can be extremely hectic).||||The family also runs a tour agency and have motorbikes for rent (70K-125K depending on motor size). Plenty to do if you want to use their services to tour the main attractions (or others offered throughout Java). Charly was extremely helpful in providing information regarding some of the attraction I wanted to visit. She also helped book my minibus and ferry ticket for Jerpara/Karimunjawa.||||Breakfast is included for those that stay here, and I found it to be a nice addition when waking up (I'm not a morning person so venturing for food early in the morning is the last thing I want to think about).||||My only complaints are that the fan rooms are a bit stuffy and the fans are somewhat weak. Perhaps in the future ceiling fans would make a great addition to this homestay. Also, the fan rooms did not have mosquito nets (another great addition for the future) and there were a few occasions I was bit by a few skeeters that made their way through the open windows. At night time the temperature does drop to where it is comfortable to sleep with a good fan and the windows open. With these two additions I would rate the homestay 5/5. Nevertheless, this definitely shouldn't stop you from using them for accommodations.||||They are close to plenty of local eateries, a lot of local fashion clothing stores, and an hour from all the main attractions (Prambanan, Borobudur, beaches, etc.)||||I enjoyed my stay and would use Ndalem Mbay Charly and their tour agency...
Read moreThe homestay was comfy and homely, with the guest rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and a garden located in one compound. The compound was endearing and gave me a feel of what a Javanese home would be like!||||We liaised with Mdm Charlotte throughout our trip, and she addressed all of our concerns with great care and attention. She helped to plan our itinerary and tailored it to our interests of adventure and sightseeing. ||||My friends and I hiked up Mount Lawu and Mount Merbabu, abseiled Jomplang cave, cave-tubed Kalisuci cave and visited Borobudur temple in the short span of our five-day Yogyakarta trip. ||||We had a blast throughout our time in Yogyakarta, and we definitely couldn't have done it without Mdm Charlotte's thoughtful planning/ arrangement (contacting and of booking drivers, mountain guides, cave-tubing guides etc). The other staff at the homestay were warm, friendly and attentive as well. They took great care of us and made sure we were comfortable throughout our time at the homestay. A very big thank you to Mdm Charlotte and rest of her crew at the homestay!||||During our time at the homestay, we also checked out the line-up of contemporary male clothing stores along Jalan Cenderawasih and the stretch of restaurants/ cafés along Jalan Mozes Gatotkaca. Read moreAt first, I've read many good review about Ndalem Mbak Charly in Tripadvisor and I was interesting to book it directly by phone. At the beginning, they so friendly. Which is that's a good point but sadly that the only good point that I've found so far until they ask me to move to another homestay when I've paid downpayment for 2 nights stay because their admin got wrong put the reservation so there was double booking on my arrival date. They give me 2 options, either move to another homestay or they will send my money back. Which is that still okay for me because I know that is a business and they'll confirm booking who's pay it more. Then I choose the second options, I ask my money back and please inform me if you've send it to my bank account. And until the next 4 days they haven't give any confirmation yet until my friend call them and said that "this is procedural things, Sir. And I will contact you on the next 2 days." But poor me until now, they still give no confirmation yet. And they only read my Whatsapp. ||||Well my review is not mean to persuade anyone to cancel your desire to stay in here. They have compatible price with average facilities even I haven't prove it. This is just for Management room improvement.
