I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I'm a big fan of egg-noodle. Needless to say, I'm crazy about Japanese Ramen, especially the spicy ones. I tried to stop by the joint in Jakarta a while ago, but I missed it due to scheduling issues. So I make a concerted effort to stop by this place when I was in Yogyakarta this past weekend. Assuming that they have managed the quality of the food and environment consistent with the ones in Jakarta, the following would be my review of Ikkousha:
Place: Place is cozy and clean. However, I quip about the temperature of the room. I don't know if they do not have their air-con running, but the place feels a tad bit warm and humid, a combination that is not all conducive to consuming steaming hot and spicy ramen. Lower the temperature a bit, I'm sure most patrons will appreciate it, especially those who ordered hot and spicy Naga Merah Ramen.
Food: Good ramen, great broth. The level of spiciness on the broth is a tad bit lower than what I had hoped for. I've been told that most Japanese do not like their food too spicy. I, however, enjoy my dishes VERY spicy. So I added massive amount of chili pepper to bring it to my level. The quantity of the food is exactly what you would expect for a bowl of ramen.
Price: Reasonable given the quality and quantity of the food.
Overall: 8/10. Given the opportunity, I would definitely return to try other...
Read moreI recently visited Hakata Ikkousha Ramen and had an absolutely wonderful experience! I ordered the classic ramen, and the broth was incredibly rich, creamy, and deeply flavorful—the perfect balance of savory porkiness without being overwhelmingly salty. The noodles had just the right chewiness and consistency.
The service was friendly and attentive. Our server provided helpful recommendations, refilled water promptly, and made us feel truly welcome. The restaurant itself was clean, cozy, and inviting—with a minimalist Japanese-style interior that made the dining atmosphere both relaxing and authentic.
I also tried the gyoza on the side—crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful inside—and the portions were satisfying without being excessive. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portion size; I felt I got great value for what I paid.
Overall, Hakata Ikkousha offered a comforting, fulfilling meal with excellent service. Whether you’re craving authentic tonkotsu ramen or just looking for a cozy place to enjoy a warm bowl of goodness, this spot is a top choice. I’ll...
Read moreAuthentic ramen with affordable price. Restaurant is comfy and spacious, enough space for groups. Parking is very limited in front only up to 4 to 5 cars. Plus: Ramen is delicious, available both in pork and chicken (halal) broth and meat. The only Hakata shop serving pork in town. Spacious and in a busy location
Minus: No “irasshaimase” greeting when entering the store, I’m not sure if others have different experience. The ugliest bowl and plate of all ramen restaurants I’ve frequented. The ramen have bubbles makes it look less appetizing - once you mixed it all the ingredients there’s no problem. Also they filled the bowl up to the brim. Either make the bowl bigger or just put less...
