Jali Resort — Hotel in Gili Trawangan

Jali Resort is a nice boutique hotel, with 16 little cottages - being the guests rooms, which are spotless clean; the furniture is cute and one can remark that attention to details was paid. Once entering the room, masks and snorkel sets are awaiting for you free or charge. Flowers and towels, including beach towels, are nicely set on the bed. In case of need, you can rent a bike for daily 50k - which is a little above average but still fair. The highlight is the wonderful pool (narrow, but at least 25m long - you can really swim!) and the private sunbeds in front of the rooms. Being a boutique hotel, there is no breakfast buffet (we booked the room with breakfast included): it is a La Carte (served from 7 to 11 AM) and it only has the possibility to order one dish, accompanied by fruit juice, coffee and a shared fruit platter per room (we are two big men, we found the breakfast tasty but really not enough - and you cannot order anything else as extra). The service in the morning is not so careful - the waiters are often using their phones and not really caring about the guests - dishes are sometimes served with no cutlery. Nothing really bad, but when I am on vacation I personally don’t want to bother keeping on asking for the same thing. In the evening, the restaurant is always full: we did not try it, but the food must be very tasty and the service better than in the morning (otherwise I could not explain why it is always so packed: there was no empty table, and the location of the hotel is not on a Main Street - you have to look for it). On day one we needed to ask to fix the air conditioning - it was immediately done and we had no problems afterwards. Warm water was for the whole stay an issue: both in the morning and in the evening, the water was cold (in 3 days, I managed to take only one hot shower - and I say hot, as I could not have it warm. Hot or cold). A little bit a pity, because I would have loved to really enjoy the shower, which is a beautiful open-air private one. Stayed here for a week over the new year. Room and pool are amazing, price includes breakfast and bike.

However, the breakfast will only be ready at 9AM and the staff failed to tell us upon booking, which is way too late for us, so we asked for early breakfast or reduced price so we can get breakfast elsewhere. The staff asked the owner and the owner agreed to give us early breakfast at 7AM. All week the breakfast was only ready at 8-830AM even when my group was scuba diving and needed to be ready at the dive shop at 830AM.

Also in the breakfast menu they mentioned about getting watermelon juice and fruit platter for every breakfast but 5 out of 7 days we stayed we didn't get those things because the owner decided that it's too costly.

Apart from the breakfast thing this place is great but in the future would be nice if they inform us on any change on the "normal" situation. Reduced rate is great but if they're always trying to cut corners and make our stay less enjoyable it's not worth reducing the price as well.

We absolutely loved our stay here. We've been travelling through Europe and Asia for a few months and this has been our favourite place so far. The room was gorgeous, outside shower and bathroom which was ace, loved showering outside. Mini bar reasonably priced, replaced and free bottles of water replaced during turndown. Towels and pool towels provided, hairdryer all provided. Shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste all provided. Air con great. Sun loungers provided outside next to room. Long pool which is very regularly rescued of leaves but it's nice to swim amongst the flowers anyway. All of this was great, however the 2 best things about Jali is the staff and the restaurant. Every single person we interacted with was incredibly lovely and friendly, at all times. The restaurant is described as best restaurant on the island and having ate breakfast (included with stay), lunch and dinner for majority of our days there, we would concur that it's amazing.
