I took my child and their friend to Bali and we booked the Jimbaran Bay Beach Resort and Spa based on three key things: 1. The room type 2. The location 3. The price. 1. Room typeI had been looking around for a room type that allowed us to all be in the same room but separated to a degree, for a bit of privacy for the two thirteen year olds away from the adult, without having to resort to the usual bunk bed options that are presemted in Bali. The Condong suite meets these needs, the two bed areas a good distance apart, and there are also two separate bathrooms and showers. The room itself is a bit dated and could do with USB charging points as an example, but it is clean and spacious and if you want a 5 star, go and pay for one. This met our needs. There are two tv's with a host of channels and smart capabilities allowing you to login to Youtube, Netflix etc. Just remember to log out of the apps when you leave! 2. The LocationIt is in Jimbaran and literally across a small road on the beach. You have plenty of options for eating in the area and it is small walk to the main Jimbaran markets and eateries, or a nice 20 min walk on the beach down to the Le Meridien / Movenpick beach side, where there are more restaurants and activity. There is a small mini mart just acround the corner, about a 4 min walk, and it is a safe walk with enough pedestrian access most of the way except for the ditch on the left around the corner. Be careful if you are walking there at night, use a torch if needed. The area is safe and has a mix of tourists and local families down on the beach which makes for a pleasant afternoon, sunset or evening down at any of the beach clubs or restaurants. Download the 'MyBluebird' app for cheaper and gps driven taxis, don't try hail any. You can opt for fixed price knowing exactly how much it is to get from A to B. As an example it cost us IDR86,000 one day to get from the hotel to Ulawatu temple, but IDR126,000 on the way back. Traffic can be bad around the area but you get there. Worth looking at the hotel's transport as well. A bit more pricier but you get more decent cars than the Bluebirds, which are usually older sedans or hatchbacks. 3. The priceAlways keep an eye out for deals. Trip.com was the cheapest by far for the same dates, same rates, same inclusions. The price was competitive compared to other hotels in the area and was fair for the amenities, location of the hotel. All in all, a great hotel for us, with impeccable service at all times, from room service to laundry to transport. The facilities are good, it is clean and the food options are good. With a small investment in room charging like USB's, this would be helpful for families instead of having to lug chargers and...
Read moreI have one day left at this hotel so am currently writing this review from my room as I wait for the engineer to finish fixing my air conditioning unit that created a paddling pool and started to throw out ice. After a great stay at the last hotel with staff who were understanding and accommodating of my situation (theft), I am very disappointed with Jimbaran. Check in staff were far from helpful and the manager gave inconsistent information. The room is standard, however the so called hillside views leave much to the imagination. My immediate view is of the rooftops directly infront of my balcony. Not one hill can be seen. The side of the sea can be seen from the balcony so a more accurate description by the hotel should have been "side sea view" to ensure guests aren't left disappointed by the incorrect room category.Ants! I know I'm in a tropical country so I've come to expect a few ants in the bathroom... However on the 3rd day (the first time i allowed room service to clean the room) after I returned to my room, there were ants all over the tables in the room. It was like an infestation. They were only in the bathroom initially yet after room service "cleaned" the room they're then in the bedroom? It seems very odd!Amenities are thrown away but not replaced. Toothpaste was discarded even though it had only been used once, but no replacement was provided. Its just common sense. On the 4th day I had to supervise them. The amenity box was empty but I still had to ask for replacements. They cleaned the glass and mirrors well, then cleaned the toilet, and then folded my towels!!! I requested him to wash his hands and then provide new towels. Breakfast is the only good thing about this hotel! There's a wide variety sure to suit even the fussiest of eaters. Hot buffet, continental, fruit, cereal, even cakes!I found the restaurant on the ground floor overpriced for what it was. They reduced the portions and charged a premium for what they described as gourmet food. The Sky Lounge upstairs had less pretentious food but was still expensive. For a hotel that's 3 star yet wants to charge 5 star prices for their food, they really need to provide a 5 star service. The waiting staff were not that friendly and they found it difficult to understand basic requests in English. Bad:Cutlery was not clean - dried food in between the fork prongs and on the knives. Sheets have stains on them.Ants all over the roomGood:BreakfastWould I ever recommend...
Read moreThere are many good aspects to this hotel and some are bad.
1st, the location: Being on a beach side is a plus however, what beach is the most important thing, for me I didn't like it's location, it's far from most prominent tourist activities in Bali, which is pretty bad, lot of things nearby but for me not really a reason to choose a place, also it's located in a pretty dense area.
2nd, the service: The staff are very welcoming, very respectful, very helpful so that's a big plus, now lets see the bad ones. I called for laundry in the morning and got ignored twice, made me sit in my room for a whole hour waiting for it, room service extremely slow, and no one basically picks up the house keeping hotline at all, reception doing literally all the work, they don't even deliver your clothes to the room, you have to go to reception to pick it up, which is a minus point.
3rd, breakfast and restaurant: The breakfast was alright, for a 4star hotel, got bit of everything but limited in both taste and variety, for a 4star hotel, it's not too bad, the place is nice you can sit next to the pool, that was my favorite place to eat. The restaurant has nice variety, the food quality I'd give it 6-7/10 not too bad but not very good either, the beef randang was very horrible 3/10, the pizza and burger was decent 7/10.
4th, the room: Walls are more shallow than I thought, I pretty much can hear next room people's breathing, but for the bed it's 5/5, pretty comfy, good sleep, good AC, good facilities in the bathroom. The room got every necessity covered so the rooms are OK.
Will I come here to stay again ?
If it was in a location nearby the prominent activities in Bali in the center-east of the island then yes, for it's price per night I would, as a solo traveller yes.
For family absolutely not, to bring my family in here it needs to have but up in standards.
This is my honest review, oh also forgot to mention, the coffee bar in the restaurant is great,...
