Bed bugs, so badly that by 3:00 am, I had to evacuate the room and go sleep in my car, in the hotel carpark.
I have stayed in this hotel three times before, in the past 12 months, and previously the rooms were clean and appeared freshly renovated ( and they were much cheaper, than what I was charged this time).
But, not this time: the room was old, run down and badly negoected.
After a very late check-in last night (after a long 22-hour ferry journey) I just wanted to sleep, But my room smelled badly of mould upon entry ( I've lived here for 20 years, I know what to expect) , But the mould smell was especially pungent in the bed sheets and especially the pillows . I tried to use the bath towel over the pillows as all I could think of is this will make me sick, but still felt ill, and then OMG, my body and face started itching all over as I tried to sleep, which I suspectect excessive remnants of cheap laundry washing powder not rinsed out correctly,
but that was not the end, .., then followed bed bugs biting me all over, underneath the sheets. Sending me out of the bed multiple time to turn on the lights, discovering more red welts in each occupation.
Add to this the shower curtain was badly spotted with black mould, the floor looked filthy and so we're the walls were disgusting. Some Power sockets in were hanging loose, dirty, with some broken, The only bedside lamp in the room was broken, lopsided and didnt even have a bulb. There was also an annoying bright light outside the room which you couldn't switch off either that also kept the room brightly lit all night through the thin curtain. The dirty, rusty fridge looked like it was scavange d from a rubbish tip, far too old, and was as noisy as my car in idle whenever the fridge compressor kicked in.
The the side table was missing also ( there is usually two here) . The rooms entry door scraped heavily on the floor that you have to force it open. The ceiling wooden panels directly above the pillows was rotted, obviously from roof leaks, in wonder the pillow stank so bad.., A totally disgusting room and a horrible...
Read morePositives:||The cottages offer a lot of privacy, and the view from my balcony was amazing. The couple next to my cottage was thankfully rather quiet. I could hear them talk through the walls, but they went to bed early, so it wasn't a problem.||On my first day, I had to leave before the breakfast started, so the staff prepared me a packed breakfast, consisting of toast, omelette with veggies, bananas and apple sauce. It was just perfect for what I needed. On the other days I had breakfast at the hotel. The breakfast room was comfortable and roomy, and the breakfast is all vegetarian, which I really enjoyed! The nasi goreng and mee goreng came with good sambal and kerepek, but there were also Western options. The fresh fruit was nice, and there was an egg (which I didn't try).||I had chosen this hotel in part because it was relatively close to Bangsal harbour, where my ferry landed (and left), and where I needed to be to get to the Gilis for a snorkelling tour, but also because it was close to some restaurants. I underestimated how long it would take by taxi to get to the harbour (about 35-45 minutes), but I liked the quiet neighbourhood.||Negatives:||When I arrived, my room did not have any towels or toilet paper, and I had to ask 2x over the space of 4 or 5 hours to get them, and then it still took a while. There was a folder with information in the room, which stated that the hotel offered tours that you could book, but when I asked reception about it, they were surprised that this information was in the folder and told me that they didn't offer tours. The advertised "Free toiletries" were just two near-empty unlabelled soap dispensers. The bathroom sink was leaking, so the bathroom floor was always wet, which isn't a huge deal, but...
Read moreGood: breakfast, pool, nice vintage style (looks like a temple), location.||Bad: WIFI not working in the rooms. I have stayed 2 nights before trekking and then afterwards 1 more night at this place. This last night was the worst ever! I have checked in at around 2pm, the room boy brought my big backpack to the room and then I stored my small backpack in the closet in the room (there is no safe) with my money inside. I only wanted to go to the pool for 2 hours and therefore left it, as it was a freshly checked in room, no cleaning person should have gotten in. But I was wrong. After returning and opening the closet I realized that someone was at my small backpack and therefore counted my money. The staff has stolen 900,000 IDR from my wallet, but for good luck left still a lot of money inside (as if I would not realize it). ||||I talked to the manager and the staff who brought my backpack up about it. Toni/Tony is the room boy's name. I am 100% sure it was him, and you could see in his face that he was lying when we discussed the situation. The manager tried to be nice though was totally not able to find any solution (poor management skills). He did not even repayed me the night to make the situation anyhow better. He said that he had the same feeling and he also believes that it was Toni. As I needed to leave for my shuttle I did not got any money back. ||||Super bad service and lying staff! I first liked the place that's why I got back, but it was the worst decision ever.||||I would advise everyone to NOT stay at...
