I met Maurizio (the owner) a couple of months ago in Gili Air and he made mention of his Lotus Bayview Restaurant in Lombok. I was interested because this was a Southern Italian man with a southern style Italian resto (with obvious Indo options 😉)...
Any way, I found myself in Lombok yesterday for the night, remember Maurizio and came across his resto with a friend. Maurizio was as kind as the day we met and his food was incredible with strong reminders of my 2nd home in Napoli!
So let's begin with an antipasti in the Tuna Carpaccio made by the man himself and it was delicious. Fresh, tangy and flavourful - the nuts were a crunchy touch. For the main, we shared a Marinara pizza (my friend was unaware that each Pizza is for one like in Italia 🤣) - the crust was soft, thin and great. Anchovies were a nice salty touch and the sauce was saucy and flavourful. We also had the in-house homemade bread and tasty balsamic.
To end the night, which was not on the menu, yet served when asked 😊 - a delicious digestif in Limoncello and then the best Espresso I have had in ID, thus far, to cap off the evening.
My friend and I appreciated the service of the staff and, of course, Maurizio and his family. Thank you for a wonderful meal and ambiance. A prossima...
Read moreThis is a review of two half’s. The waiting staff were wonderful, incredibly polite and professional. However, when ordering a pizza, it was thick and uncooked so the dough was raw. When asked how it was, I politely asked it it could go back in the oven to cook it for longer, even though it was too thick. The owner, Maurice, took great offence at this. He shouted at me on a number of occasions, then included other customers in the conversation to embarrass me further. He then brought out another pizza, whilst continuing to shout at us, incredibly rudely, whilst feeding the original pizza to other customers to get their opinion. The new pizza, was cooked correctly, was thin and not doughy. This was incredibly unfortunate, as it ruined the evening and I felt so uncomfortable we left. The waiting staff apologised profusely for their boss and said they agreed the pizza was too thick. It was a horrible experience, and Maurice needs to know it is not ok to shout at customers when it is his mistake. You can get much better Italian food elsewhere. My friend had the seafood pasta, which she would...
Read moreWe just regretted it that we didn't discover this place sooner. It's bloody fantastic.
We came back for this one dish we loved. Oh, I forgot the name. It's in the picture. I think it's Seafood Bonanza. The best mashed potato by far in my life. The blend of the different tastes are wonderful. Combined with their seafood choices, it's fantastic. We tried the pizza, with the anchovies. Of Italian style, of course, wood-fired, their specialty, and it was as they said, nice. If we were to stay longer, perhaps we would dine here more often to try out other dishes.
Maurizio, the manager, is a great, humble man. Very friendly and hospitable. His staffs are great, they know how to serve nicely. Very attentive. Overall in service, great job!
The ambience, is also lovely. By the beach, not intimidating, very nice to have a casual evening. Sometimes the street sellers would come and offer something, but it's not too disturbing. We can still enjoy the peace and serene evening by the beach, under the big trees.
Surely, it's VERY...
