MERTA BEACH Bungalows — Hotel in Nusa Penida Subdistrict

TRAVELERS BEWARE! DISGUSTING AND UNSAFE! Originally booked three nights her and left after 1. Couldn’t get out quick enough. Management is very unresponsive and unorganized. They arranged a taxi for me that never showed. When I arrived the room was gross with stains on the sheets and furniture that was falling apart. Very little security. My door didn’t lock properly and there was no lock box. Rented a scooter from them for double what other places were charging. The odometer, speedometer, and helmet were all broken. It was given to me without any gas and I had to fill it up immediately. As I was riding the check engine light came on and then the bike stalled. When this happened it was dark and I was 15km away from the villa in the middle of no where. Had to push the bike 3km until I reached cell service. Tried to contact the villa and there was no response. Found someone to jump the scooter and was able to make my way back. As a young, solo, female traveler I cannot believe they put me in such a dangerous situation. When I got back to the villa no one was at the front desk. Finally got to my room at 22:00 to rest as I was exhausted. However the staff kept knocking on my door trying to get my attention even though I repeatedly said I was not able to speak to them at the moment. I contacted the host multiple times and no response. Just stayed at Merta Beach Bungalows for a few days on our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! We had just come from 6-nights at a fancy resort in Ubud so I was concerned it would be a rough transition to this humble cottage— but it wasn’t at all! Our cottage was very clean and comfortable, AC worked great, the included breakfast options were simple but tasty and filling, and the staff was very helpful with all sorts things, including making sure taxi drivers didn’t overcharge us. The best thing though is the location— you can literally walk out your door into one of the best snorkeling spots on the island, as evidenced by all the snorkeling tour boats that stop there every day! Skip a time-wasting tour and just rent snorkel gear from the management office. Several good (for Nusa Penida standards) warungs, cafes, and beach clubs within 2-3 mins walk too. three times to this Island I think this is the best beachfront villa with very friendly price! the staffs are all super friendly and deliver service that beyond my expectation. I was asking for a specialized romantic dinner with wine, with red cloth and surrounded by candles. and guess what, the staff said they can do it! they even overdeliver with the candle positioning (in the shape of love) and they don’t even asked additional price, I literally only pay for the wine and meals! please note I asked the romantic dinner at 00:00am.
