Stayed here for four nights in January (monsoon season) for our honeymoon in a riverside villa. I can very much say that this was the best hotel or resort I have ever stayed in. The rooms are very well designed and equipped, the grounds are meticulously maintained and the service is first class and what you would expect from a Four Seasons property. There are only roughly 60 rooms and villas on site, so the overall feel throughout the stay is very exclusive with the staff remembering your name.
The villas are dispersed throughout the active rice patties and gardens of the resort. A free buggy (i.e. golf cart) service is provided between your villa and all parts of the resort on demand. Additionally, there is a free shuttle to Ubud center every two hours from 9AM to 5PM. Each villa is equipped with a private pool, outdoor terrace, outdoor shower and any amenity you may need is provided through the concierge service. Special thanks to Dewa at the front desk who helped us out throughout our stay with exceptional service. Each villa is also designed with specific sight lines to provide complete privacy between you and any adjacent villas. While the villa did not feel overly dated by any means, some upgrades to things like electronic door locks would enhance the experience.
We booked an airport transfer to the resort, and our arrival was almost choreographed down to the second. Our driver phoned into the reception desk upon our arrival and we were greeted by staff who welcomed us and seamlessly took our bags. Brought down the lobby, we were offered a welcome drink and cold towel, and were checked in. Next we were put on a waiting buggy and driven down to the villa. The staff gave us a tour of the villa, and two waiters entered to provide a free bottle of champagne and chocolate cake for our honeymoon. this was complemented with a rose petal display on the bed, and in the tub. Similar attention to detail was given to us throughout our stay,
The resort has numerous on-site and off-site activities which are provided directly through the Four Seasons. We participated in the on site cooking school and rafting experience. While we were at first sceptical on booking them through the resort due to the relatively higher price compared to alternatives in central Ubud, we found that the added cost was worth the expense. Both the cooking school and rafting were done as a private experiences, compared to being added to a group on other operators. Special thanks to Chef Suta at Sokasi cooking school who not only provided a great introduction to Balinese cooking and ingredients, but even provided us with some local ingredients to take home which are not readily available in our home country.
We also booked the multi-course "romantic dinner" on the rooftop lotus pond. While expensive by any standard, the food and setup was amazing, and the personalized service by a private waiter was really the climax of our stay here. My only relatively minor comment is that drinking water for dinner should probably be part of the dinner. Given the cost and "all inclusive" nature of the dinner, I found it silly for water to be a adder.
The Four Seasons is expensive, and that should be a surprise to nobody. If you are on a budget or annoyed by above average prices compared to the local market, then this is probably not the place for you. However, if you are looking for leading service and experiences that you will remember for a lifetime, then I wholly recommend staying here. Prices may be expensive, but you never feel like you are being cheated. The Four Seasons adds value in their operations and is very noticeable...
Read moreWe stayed 3 nights on our honeymoon in June. We really loved our time and it truly felt like a paradise, but we did write some feedback below as we felt the room and dinner offering were a little disappointing for the price point.||Some positives: The hotel and grounds are stunning and ideal for a honeymoon. Our room (duplex) was nice and we really enjoyed the warm check in process. Staff were very professional and approachable, clearly working very hard to maintain the standard and ambiance of the hotel which we could feel! The manager who welcomed us was fantastic (so sorry we forgot his name).| We loved the breakfast menu and the ladies serving the food were very friendly. The cocktails overall were delicious, especially at Jati bar. We did really like the food at the Nusuntra buffet night, and Chef Wayan is lovely. The pool & spa was fantastic (perhaps an option for a little light at night would be good for an evening jacuzzi?)||Some negatives: For the price though, we do feel the rooms need a refresh as they were very outdated and wear and tear was starting to show, particularly in the shower, which refused to drain each time for some time so we had to keep putting towels down. We don’t think the room was worth the price compared to Padma Ubud and Oberoi Lombok. | Dinner surprisingly left something to be desired as there were very limited food options available at both the pool cafe and the restaurant, and we really feel this needs to be improved on. In room dining was delicious but honestly very slow which was a bit disappointing. We do feel that staff at the Riverside Pool were sometimes quite stretched and took a while to bring things out.||Activities: We did the picnic lunch experience and we loved this so much. Ari and Chef Ung were so amazing and such professionals- we were really impressed and the food was very delicious. We would like to pass our particular thanks to Ari, who is such a lovely person and we enjoyed talking to him. He also went back to the hotel to get mosquito repellant during the experience. ||Honeymoon specific: We were welcomed with a bottle of champagne and a cake in our room, lowers in the bath & a little presentation on the bed - thanks to the team and to Ari as well for a warm welcome in the room. The FS team cleaned my wife's wedding shoes after a photoshoot (complimentary) which was also nice.||Overall: We loved the ambiance in the main areas, and how quiet the whole hotel was, it felt like a true paradise. Thank you to the excellent staff! We would definitely love to return if there were more dinner options and the rooms a...
Read moreA 7 nights stay at this property made it feel a bit like a home away from home - hard to bid farewell largely due to their attentive and professional team who made Ubud experience extra memorable - special thanks to Chef Suta, Awin who took care of us even before our arrival, and guide Agus.
We were upgraded to a villa and due to discount, we decided not to do hotel hopping. It was a great choice. And sparing time to give this review is my way of saying thanks!
First thing i’d recommend their activities - it brought us to closer contact with the local ways, people and we had a lot of fun chatting with our guide.
We went for 2 day spa package (the one with Yoga and biathon), hike Mount Batul, can you keep a secret and chef table. Only Mount Batul was with their trusted vendor, others are with Four Seasons staff.
If I were to only recommend 2.
Chef table - just go for it. Was my Ubud highlight. Not just for the food, but for the conversation with Chef Suta, and seeing the traditions, belief of Balinese culture through cuisine.
Biathon - a bit of physical work and sun, we are quite athletic individuals so it wasn’t hard for us at all. But for those that are less active - i guess it should be okay compared to the 1.5 hour hike up mountain batul & waking up at 2am. Agus is known as the “muscle guy” around the hotel, funny and passionate guide - the view and feel of route he choose was very very nice. Learnt all about the making of rice, balinese home and community structures by asking a lot of curious questions along our paddling up and down hill. Spotting cute dogs, chicks, birds and roasters along the unwinding curves.
Property wise - 15 minutes away from downtown, right by the river so there’s this “CALM app” audio bgm going on all the time. surrounded by the lush green open yet nicely in distance so you feel it is an open space. Riding on the buggy back to villa itself is meditative and unwinding. I like the stroll on early mornings on their neatly maintained garden and rice fields.
With covid - facilities are mostly all open except the pool side restaurant where they send food from Ayung Terrance. The free breakfast comes in ala carte with options from vegan, western to indonesian - they’re open to half portions for us to try more dishes.
Side note: Bali just opened up so the hotel is rather quiet with under 40% occupancy. So we might been lucky to have benefited from the team’s extra bandwidth - regardless - they felt like one friendly,...
