We had an unforgettable stay at Kupu Kupu Garden Guesthouse. This is the place you never want to leave. Everything was just perfect.
The quiet location right at the riverside - about 30 minutes walk along the river from the town centre - is very beautiful and peaceful.
The guesthouse buildings (only 5 rooms) are surrounded by a lush tropical garden, full of colorful flowers (and of course butterflies). The sounds of birds and the flowing of the river complete the paradise feeling.
The stylish rooms are spacious and come with a private bathroom and a lovely balcony overlooking the river towards the majestic jungle at the other side; it’s not uncommon to spot monkeys or hornbills while laying in your hammock.
In the nice open restaurant you can have great breakfasts and every evening a delicious ‘family style’ dinner is served at the big wooden tables. The food is delicious and always freshly prepared; during the four days we stayed there was never the same dish.
Last but not least, the staff is super friendly and helpful. They are not only professionals when it comes to organizing jungle trekking or rafting, but also can help you arrange excursions or transport to your next destination. But above all, they are genuinely passionate about nature and treat 'their' jungle with the utmost respect.
We went on a 1-day jungle trekking with Arif and Yuli and this was a highlight of our stay. We spotted seven orangutans, but also saw Thomas' leaf monkeys, white gibbons, macaques, turtles and two hornbills. The walk was beautiful, mostly easy, but sometimes with steep descents or climbs. In the jungle we were treated to fresh fruit and a delicious nasi goreng, all brought for us by the boys in their daypack. At the end of the trekking we returned to Bukit Lawang by rafting, which was a great experience too.
Thanks Risky, Arif, Mery and Juli for hosting us, we had a fantastic time...
Read moreWe were here 3 nights. This is a remarkable place situated near the river opposite the jungle. The staff was very friendly. The owners were away but they have apparantly good and responsible employees. This guesthouse is about 20 minutes walking from the last more normal path of the village. You need to have a good pair of legs to reach it. But since you are probably going to Bukit Lawang to do some trecking in the jungle that should be no problem. Porters can carry your bags. When you are in kupu kupu you stay there to eat your evening meals. The food was very good so there is no need even tot go somewhere else. But you have to adjust to the available food. Or let them know on time what your wishes are. We would have liked some fruit in the morning with our breakfast but that seemed not to be possible. |You can organize your trips here. We had a day trip with a professional guide and saw three female Orangs with child and one male. So we were very lucky. If you stay at least one night in the jungle you will probably experience more the jungle feeling. The rooms are oké but it was not very clean and also a bit moist. Specially in...
Read moreWhen I booked the room I wasn't really aware of the location. The rooms seemed really nice and close to the river. When I arrived there it was far better than my expectations. The rooms have an awesome view, the staff is REALLY nice, the room was amazing! I thought there will be mosquitos but I stayed the whole night in the balcony and not one mosquito. And the place is located in the woods and there is no traffic or anything. Just really peaceful place with not much noise. Other places in the village have motorbikes always passing around but not in KUPU KUPU.||Jeffrey, the owner, is really nice and talkative and really funny. I enjoyed a lot talking to him. The guide for the trekking, Arif, is really nice guy and he will show you the nicest places in the jungle!||This place is totally...
