We are currently staying four nights and paid extra to get a room on the “executive” Level floor with lounge access. Worth mentioning is that we are also Meliá Gold members and have been traveling extensively around the world staying in many different five star hotels.
On arrival we were given a very large room that looked even better than we had expected so we assumed we had been upgraded. While unpacking our things the receptionist came telling us she made a mistake and we were forced to move to a room half the size of the initial one. Even if this was a mistake another more professional hotel would handle it differently. Also, while helping move our luggage the bellboy didn’t notice that our backpack was completely open, so we had underwear and things all over the floor.
Internet access in the hotel is very shaky dropping connections and require frequent relogions. It took complaints to get working at all. Tried to call the front desk to get help, but no response at all after five minutes waiting on the line so had to go down to reception to get help.
The snacks part of the afternoon tea available in the lounge is ok, but not more. No coffee or tea was provided. No drinks apart from water and juice were available, neither soft drinks nor wine or beer.
According to the reservation confirmation we were supposed to get these additional services included, but nothing was mentioned about this during checkin or was available in the room. 1x Free Massage 4x Spa Service Coupon 4x Room upgrade Discount 4x Food & Drinks Discount
The rooms on the Level floor are clean and fine, but fairly small. At least housekeeping seems to be good. Unfortunately the rooms are very thin-walled, so noisy, especially with the mosque next door. Beds are ok.
Location is ok, maybe 10 min walk to the Malioboro walking street. There are other hotels closer however, for example Novotel and Grand Inna.
Breakfast is not bad but far from what can be expected from an international five star hotel. Not great selection of food available. Horrible tasting brewed coffee is the only publicly available, but if you request it you may get espresso from the waitress.
Just before this stay we arrived from Doubletree Hilton Jakarta and Surabaya, which was the same price level but way way better. Their service and lounge was like paradise, especially in comparison. The difference made Meliá Purosani look like a joke.
Disappointed and had expected a lot better. We have stayed in many 3-star hotels with better service. We do not recommend Meliá and wish we had selected another place for our stay.
We even tried to checkout earlier than reserved, but the receptionist claimed the room was prepaid and could not be changed even if the confirmation mail said “Flexible Last minute rate. This rate allows maximum flexibility to make changes or cancel the reservation free of charge”. If possible to refund, we would have moved.
Needless to say, we will not be back to Meliá again. Good luck on improving...
Read moreStaying in this hotel was a relaxing and pleasant experience, but I would not say the same for the spa. Skip to the parts below to read about the spa if you want to, because I have a lot to say about it.
In terms of the food, the breakfast buffet was not bad. However, as someone who doesn't eat beef, it limited some options for me. For those who eat beef, you may enjoy it. Ching San, the Chinese restaurant in the hotel, was awesome and I totally recommend it. You can see the menu and some of the food in the pictures. For the hotel ambience, it was wonderful and the vibe of this hotel was very relaxing.
Regarding the massage, we went there with high hopes as hotel massages are, from past experience, not bad, and the masseurs are usually of a certain quality. The ambience of the massage area was nice but the rest was really not. The music that they blasted (yes, blasted) was the type from Indonesian puppet shows, where there's a lot of rattling and climaxes to the music. Under normal circumstances, I believe I would've appreciated it, but as someone who was expecting to relax during a massage, this was a bit too much.
Furthermore, my masseur seemed to be under the impression that she was massaging my muscles when she was, in fact, just randomly massaging everywhere. I came out of the massage with the same tense and sore muscles because she had somehow managed to successfully evade the muscle areas every time. There seemed to be no logic in how she was massaging and no logic in whatever she was doing.
For instance, my companion asked her masseur to massage her harder, and my masseur said yes, and proceeded to massage me harder instead. My companion and I were rather baffled by that. Also, my masseur asked if I wanted a stomach massage. I said yes, to which she proceeded to instead massage my waist area and press hard on my bladder (once again, I was stunned). To make matters worse, my masseur seemed to be totally unaware of which parts she should massage and shouldn't massage. She kept touching a certain area that I didn't want her to touch until I tensed up really hard and she asked me what was wrong. I then told her very explicitly not to touch that area anymore. Overall, it is so baffling to me how anyone of this standard can be a...
Read moreI booked this hotel expecting a five star experience with more affordable price compared to Marriott, considering I checked in very late at night, just wanted to make the most out of the hotel cost. And I regretted it.
Cons: Once we arrived, there was no one helping us with the luggage. There was a guy dressed up in Santa costume, but he did nothing to help us. It was a moment later when finally a concierge staff came and helped. There was a plastic bag with leftover food from the previous customer inside the fridge. I read a review from another customer, turned out that wasn't the first time. Minibar was empty. The shower stall had seal at the door's bottom, but the water still spilled everywhere when you shower. Shower head water holes were somewhat broken and blocked, so the water pressure was weak. The bathtub was clogged after used, there were strand of hairs sticking out, it was totally gross. No boxed tissue in the room, I had to use toilet roll for everything. 7.The bed, as this is five star hotel, I was expecting king koil quality, instead, it was thin bed, you could feel the spring when you lay on it. Pillow were small and thin. The bedding was the ultimate let down for me. Wifi was on and off, couldn't connect almost the entire stay. Housekeeping was kind of hit and miss. They provide 4 bottles of mineral water per room at first day of check in (I booked 2 rooms), second day only two bottles for each room, 300ml bottle size, mind you, otherwise I wouldn't waste my time to complain. The picture of the TV were blurred, it was kind of old Tv units.
The whole things above should have been minor, but it was super annoying!! I was expecting five star, and the price was normal price, not the discounted price.
However to give some credits, here are the pros: Food were good, the staff at the restaurant were all nice and helpful. Service were prompt and very responsive. Rooms were newly renovated, you could feel the ambience.
However, the pros definitely not enough to make me wanted a...
