We went for a night in my hometown jerusalem and stayed at the machne yhoda brown hotel. The hotel is just after the machne yhoda market and very close to the Jerusalem light train station so we arrived by train from Tel aviv and took the light train to the hotel - no driving and parking which is a very nice way to start a vacation. The hotel location is very problematic for arriving by car the light train took the main roads and the remaining roads are saved for public transportation so you are left with one street that is very busy and no parking around my advice - take the train. The hotel is located at the back of the public market and in along the light train route so you can walk around in the pedestrian zone it created to walk in the city center all the way to the old city which is so cool. It used to be a busy dirty and smooky street with lots of buses and now it's just a nice quiet street with shops along the way and trees.
The entrance is from Yafo street but it's hidden just after the police building in a small path that leads to it, we missed it twice when looking. There is a construction site just next to it I imagine that when it will be done the entrance will be more visible. The entrance has wall with many books that is very nice. The hotel entrance has an unfinished look - you have nacked wall when you can see the bricks and pipes in the ceiling In the lobby which is just a huge empty space there is a band equipment, some tabel to sit on with refreshments, and drinks which is nice in the hot summer and even a sitting place on the floor with nargila.
There was a line at the reception desk. The two workers there were more busy with the phone than the waiting people so we had to wait a few min but we got an upgrade to our room, which has become a welcomed tradition in brown hotels - thanks!
The elevator is located after a wall in the lobby - strange and not very accessible.
The floors are all designed in black so you can see every little speck of dust there which is not the smartest desing decision.
The upgraded room we got was very nice. It was at a good size and had a nice balcony with a jacuzzi but it is facing the other section of the hotel and only a small view of the wonderful Jerusalem view which is a bummer. The room also comes in dark colors it had a comfortable bed and TV and a noisy mini bar (I disconnected it at night)
The bathroom is really a glass room, which takes about 1/3 of the original room size, with some semi transparent curtain on it so be prepared to wash in front of your partner - no way to hide if it's a problem for you (or have fun if it's not)
For breakfast you get a voucher for one of 3 places (you need to select in advance for some reason) . We selected Lyon which was the closest and it wasn't good so try one of the others. Next to the entrance there are some sitting places with tables where you can sit and enjoy the Jerusalem air. We had a good time there and will be coming back for more...
Read moreI was extremely disappointed. We booked a double and single room. The single room was very small and the t.v. was on the side wall and impossible to see in bed and also, there was no telephone. When we complained, the room was changed and an acceptable room was given. Upon checking in we were told that the double room had been upgraded with a Jacuzzi but as we had not bought our swimming costumes with us, we were unable to use it as it was outside on the balcony in full view of everyone. The room again, was extremely small. The carpet was frayed, there was a hole in my bath-towel and the extractor fan in the bathroom did not work. The walls of the bathroom are glass with curtains to draw around them (the curtains were quite transparent). Unfortunately there are no stickers on the glass to warn you that you are about to walk into a glass wall. Unlike most hotels, the management does not provide tea or coffee making facilities in the bedroom. When I woke up during the night and wanted to have a hot drink, I had the choice of getting dressed, going down 6 floors, making my drink, going up again 6 floors, putting on my night-clothes and finally drinking my hot drink which would probably have been cold. I gave up on the idea. The staff are extremely courteous and very helpful. Nothing is too much trouble and they make every effort to assist you. The hotels location is also good. I would not recommend this hotel because the price of room does not reflect on quality of the...
Read moreWe were 4, took 2 rooms for 2 people. We paid extra for bigger rooms, however it was noticeable that one room was bigger than the other. One could fit a desk chair, and the other did not. When we went to confront with the front desk, he said that the sizes are the same, I asked him how is it possible that one room can fit a chair and the other can not, he accused me that I need to get my eyes tested. Then, when we left and paid for the parking, the parking lot demanded us extra payment even though we paid in advance for the parking. When calling the front desk, no one answered and I was 5 minutes waiting. Eventually I went to the front desk, to see 2 people just laughing with themselves. I asked them why they are not answering the phone, they didn’t answer. I asked them how is it possible that I need to pay extra for parking even though I paid in advance for the parking, they said there was an error on their side and they fixed it. Overall the hotel is okay, but there is a feeling that the staff are not very professional at their job. I added here pictures of the rooms, you be the judge if they are the same size or not
EDIT IN RESPONSE TO THE MANAGEMENT NOTE: if the rooms are of the same size, how come there is a chair in one room and there isn’t a chair in...
