Azura — Restaurant in Jerusalem

My husband and I came here after seeing it on YouTube by Mark Wiens and we were excited to try it. However I’ve never experienced racism so bad as today. I’m white but my husband is of brown skin and as soon as we arrived the (presumed) owner refused to seat us inside when asked but straight after did seat other people inside after us (there were many places still available inside). He refused to serve us and let a waitress serve us instead but he kept staring at my husband with the most dirty expression on his face just standing a meter or two away from our table. When we wanted to pay they had the nerve to ask for a tip. When I declined she rolled her eyes at me and handed me the receipt without looking at me or a goodbye. Azura has a cozy atmosphere and the food tastes homemade. Most of the food is already cooked so the wait time is minimal. The food is very traditional and authentic to the Iraqi Kurdish cuisine.

The Azura was tasty and had a combination of flavors. It consisted of an eggplant, ground meat, pine nuts and cinnamon. The portion was a bit small and I was not a huge fan of the cinnamon but overall it had a great texture.

The Kubbe in the soup was delicious and probably my favorite thing I tasted. Keep in mind that this soup is a bit sour since it is made with lemon.

Most memorable food in years, all new flavours to me. Family run canteen in Mahane Yehuda serving exquisite slow-cooked Iraqi/ Turkish/ Kurdish Jewish meals. Lunch only- they start running out of stuff about 2:30pm and are pretty much done by 430-5. I am still thinking about the aubergine stuffed with some kind of cinnamon beef and pine nuts, dumpling soup, wonderfully fragrant meatballs, and the only hummus i've ever been excited about.
