The hotel itself isn't bad - it is a simple hotel, close proximity to the train station, and the staff are mostly very kind and accommodating. Unfortunately, we didn't have a similar experience that most of the 5 star reviews had.
We had spent two weeks traveling throughout Italy prior to our one night stay in this hotel. We checked in around 2PM and would be checking out by 4AM to make our 6AM flight out of Florence. We were looking forward to relaxing in the AC, packing our suitcases, and trying to get a good nights rest before a 15 hour travel day. Of note, we had spent the previous 10 hours on a train - we were TIRED! When we arrived, the lady at the front was very sweet and arranged a taxi for us. She walked us up to our room and showed us how to work everything. We left for a late lunch and came back - ready to relax and pack! About 20 minutes later, the power went out. We were told by staff it was a "city wide blackout" and many hotels and the train station were out of power. We understood and were hopeful it would turn back on soon, so we relaxed in the room and laughed it off. About 45 minutes later, we decided to leave and walk around as it was becoming too hot to stay inside. We were told the power would be back on at 7PM (it was about 4PM at this point). We walked about 200 feet from the hotel and found that all businesses and hotels in the area had power. Businesses said it was not a city wide blackout, but likely just a problem with specific grids or businesses. We tried Googling the issue, but found nothing on the news regarding a "city wide blackout." We walked back to Luxor and asked about the possibility of a refund/resolution as we found a hotel just around the corner with AC. That is where the bad experience begun....
The staff asked us to have "humility" and "understanding" that the power outage was not the fault of the hotel. We 100% understood that - this summer is hot in Italy and we both understand that overwhelming the electrical grids can happen. We were then told the power would be on by 730PM now. We left again and when we returned, the owner was there. She immediately began yelling at us how we were the only people that were not understanding and that we should go out and sight see and wait until 8PM now for the power to turn on. We attempted to ask for the same humility and understanding that they asked of us - it was our last day of a 2 week vacation, we were hot, and really looking forward to relaxing in a room that we paid for. We told her multiple times that we understood the power outage was not HER fault, though it was very inconvenient considering we paid $200 for a room that we couldn't actually use. She continued to scream over us, accusing us of being horrible guests, and offered us a lukewarm coke. She refused to discuss any form of resolution and continued to demand we go out and sight see....in 100 degrees with no real promise of being able to return to a room with AC. We sat in the lobby with her for 15 minutes while she screamed and yelled at us. When we went upstairs, we started to pack as we still had no power and we no longer felt comfortable staying there. About 15 minutes later, she came up and banged on our door. She yelled to turn the lights on and told us the AC would be so cold that we would wake up sick (a weird thing to say?).
Her attitude made this 4-5 star experience, a 1 star experience. As paying customers, we tried our hardest to explore the situation with her but we were met with hostility and disrespect. We were screamed at in front of other guests and were never provided with the same humility and understanding that we provided them with. It is unfortunate because I think this hotel has the ability to be good - though, I would never pay $200 for the service and disrespect we received.
Of note, the room had a very weird smell. So weird that we ended up buying a can of Febreeze because it was unbearable. The shower is small and the bathroom was not...
Read moreWow!” Is all I can say when I think about my May 2023 trip to Florence where Hotel Luxor was our home based. I stayed for 4 nights with a group of friends and we were so well taken care of from the very minute Adrianna checked us in. Not only did she walk us to our rooms to make sure we had everything we needed, she also helped us find our way to an great dinner spot, Motto Motto. Adriana is incredible. She is a wealth of knowledge of the best places to do anything in Florence, and went above and beyond to help us make it happen. One of the best meals we had in Florence was organized by Adrianna where she helped us find a reservation to a great place (Russo Crudo) where she made sure we were so well taken care of there. Not sure how she did it, but she got us the best seats in the house, a discount, and also complimentary lemoncello on top of that. Adrianna is also a ton of fun to talk to about the different aspects of Florence life. By the time we left, I felt like we had a local friend that had our back.
The rooms were clean and as described on the website, and breakfast was a delight as well with Elizabeth always greeting us warmly every day and make us our espresso drinks. Breakfast was always available by 7:30 with a selection of eggs, ham, cured meats, cheese, freshly baked goods and more! My favorite thing about breakfast was seeing Elizabeth interact with all the guest asking about how they were doing, what their plans were for the day, and overall bringing so much joy into the morning.
Hotel Luxor isn’t a 5 star hotel, but the care we were shown during our stay was surely world class and better than many other hotels I’ve stayed at. Looking forward to...
Read moreThe room was super cute and clean and so was the bathroom
I loved loved loved the place. It was super clean and convinient. Centrally located with access to various cafe's and restuarants as well as close to the metro(like super close)
We walked to all the attractions
Also the breakfast was simple and fulfilling
The girls at the reception were super nice and helpful
I am not sure why this place has lots of bad reviews. The bathroom shower is enough for one person to shower comfortably
The hotel is next to the train tracks(hence you are bound to hear the trains). However this is evident in location so am not sure why people were complaining in the reviews. Its like saying "i can hear the waterfall" when you book a hotel room next to one.
I did not encounter any rude staff throughout my stay
Also whoever said this place was smelly, i assure u it smells amazing. I dont know what air freshner they use but the lobby as well as the rooms smell real good
There is an elevator to take the bags to other floors so u dont have to worry about carrying the bags upstairs
The hotel provides unlimited coffee. All you got to do is ask the staff at the reception.
The breakfast was delicious and had everything you needed to start your day (eggs, croissant, yogurt, jam, cereal , toast, juice , sausage)
I was dreading the hotel after booking because of all the negative reviews i read, however its disappointing that people might not provide honest reviews
Please book without hesitation as the management has changed. The owner is so cordial and helpful. if you are looking for an affordable stay thats next to the...
