We stayed four nights in the 2 bedroom Capanna suite in June. The location and views are breathtaking - up on a hill, surrounded by vineyards, very peaceful. The landscaping on the property is beautifully landscaped as well. Outdoor table and chairs were nice for outdoor eating or just taking in the views. ||||Location is wonderful with the lovely town of Greve just a 10 minute drive away. We took the bus into Florence. We caught the bus in Grassina, which is just outside of Florence, but one could also catch a bus in Greve and there are some train options as well. It was a very convenient location for touring the wine country and getting into Florence easily. ||||The Capanna suite is separate from the other two larger suites, which is nice. It is nicely furnished. The master bedroom was very nice with a nicely tiled bathroom and large bathtub. It has a corner fireplace (not usable during our stay). It was clean and Danijela had cut some fresh flowers from the garden and put them in vases, which was a very nice touch. She also supplied fruit, milk, juice and coffee.||||The major problem with the house is the dampness. Most of the house (except for the master bedroom and bathroom) is very damp and smells mildewy. The main living area was once a wine cellar and most of the bottom level (living room and kitchen) is actually under ground. The walls are damp and moisture is apparent. The furniture in the main living area had a damp feel to it and even the dishes, which are stored in a hutch in the main living area, smell like mildew. We couldn't use the dishes or silverware without rinsing them off first. All of our party developed severe allergy symptoms and sore throats, and by the end of our stay, we felt the need to leave the house ASAP. ||||The kitchen was small, but functional with a stove, oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a clothes washer. We had a slight problem with ants in the kitchen. There was bug spray supplied in the kitchen and we had to spray the entire perimeter more than once. Every morning there were some ants on the counter top. We kept ALL opened food in the fridge to try to avoid the ant problem.||||Another big disappointment was that the pool was not usable. We were told upon arrival that a part was needed to get the pool functional, but they didn't know when it would be fixed. It was a shame because the pool is large and beautiful and situated very nicely in the landscape. We had only considered accommodations with a pool, and this was part of the reason we chose Chianti Suites. We asked for a discount since the pool wasn't usable, but we were not given one. Danijela contacted another property associated with Chianti Suites to see if they had accommodations available (since they had a functional pool), but there was no availability. The lack of a pool was a definite negative and we wish we would have been told of this before our arrival.||||Danijela was very hospitable and helpful. She had left some pamphlets and a nicely typed out itinerary for the wine country. We followed her itinerary one day and it took us to some lovely places that we would not have found on our own.||||Overall, it's a beautiful property, but we won't return due to the...
Read moreHad an amazing stay here. Breakfast was included with the room price and overall really enjoyable. The front desk staff, specifically the younger gentleman with dark curly hair (I regretfully cannot remember his name), was absolutely incredible. He went far beyond what I’d ever expect and did everything imaginable to ensure we had a great stay. This hotel is lucky to have him. There are a lot of neat shops and restaurants to explore nearby, and some awesome trails with stunning views. Highly recommend the trails which are detailed in the paper printouts at the front desk. My only warning is to bring plenty of bug spray (for warmer months) and be very careful as parts of the trails take you on the slimmest shoulder of busy roads. Finding transportation was tricky as Ubers don’t typically venture out that far from Florence, but there are a few private drivers who can be found online - just book in advance. Otherwise the bus can be reliable depending on where you want to go. As far as storing luggage, the front desk was happy to hold our items behind their counter for over 4 hours after our checkout time as we did some last minute sightseeing. Overall 5 out of 5 stars, would definitely...
Read moreWe have had the pleasure of staying at Albergo del Chianti several times over the years. ||The recent 100 % purchase of the property by the Belgian “Buys” family (a family who previously vacationed at the hotel and own a significant winery in the area) has enhanced the property while maintaining the personal warmth and elegant comfort of the place that it had been known for.||Indeed, the young couple managing the hotel (daughter and son-in-law of the owner) go out-of-their-way to make all guests feel so very welcome.||The Albergo no longer has an on-site restaurant (they do need to update the website), but the many fine restaurants in the area do not leave you short of options (try La Cantina around the corner and down the street!)||The Saturday market - held literally out the front door of the hotel - is a fun way to spend a “down day”, and you can finish with a dip in the beautiful swimming pool in the very private grassy courtyard behind the hotel. (Do NOT park on the top floor of the elevated parking lot down the street on Saturday/market day, as they will tow your car!……that’s another story for another day)||Can’t...
