The main problem with this is the accessability. Coming off the main road you face 2.5km of bumpy, rocky and mountainous track that is in no way appropriate for a car that doesn't have 4 wheel drive. Also, if you are using a hire car, there is a high risk of scratching it or gaining a puncture. ||If you dare not face the perrel of driving into town, you are saved by a track that is about a 1km walk straight into Greve in Chianti. However, this is as steep and as rough as the track you just drove on, and walking back up it can take 30 mins+. I wouldn't recommend using this to walk into town if you are elderly, as it is very tiring. ||The view from the villa is outstanding, and is higher than most of the surrouding villas. The pool is not too big nor too small, and the view from it is also outstanding. The pool is surrounded by ample deck chairs and shaded areas, as well as sun loungers. ||Inside our apartment, the bedrooms had ceiling fans, so it was never too hot, and dining/kitchen/living room was quite large. Outside, there is plenty of places to sit and eat a meal, and a BBQ. The housekeeper was perfectly friendly, and met us on arrival, althought I'm not sure if that was simply a coincidence. He is always around if there is a problem. ||The fact that it is so difficult to get to this property without possibly damaging your vehicle puts me off coming...
Read moreUpon seeing this place after a short drive up the steep hill, my breath was taken away, not only is it incredibly historical in itself (built in 1100s) but it was very traditional, great setting with views to wow even the most hardened critic, the room we were in was one of a few different styles, for families there is a private villa with its own pool and for the rest little parts of the castle quarters which are 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom. The peacefulness here says it all, sitting in the morning looking over the Tuscany hills was just wow, I usually like to listen to music when I'm sitting by the pool but no way was I going to disturb the peaceful nature experience, it truly was mind-blowing. The staff were always on hand for whatever we needed, be that a spare hairdryer, or an iron or even a life into town. If you are considering this, don't even give it any doubt because you will not be disappointed. It is probably one of the most incredible hotels in the area, all my other family and friends were staying in other places but when I showed them this, it was like...
Read moreWe spent 2 magical nights in this gem of a place above Greve. It is very hard to find (you actually have to drive to Panzano and then head back northwards before turning off on a terrible dirt road of 2.5km) but once arrived you wont want to leave. We stayed in La Ruota with a wonderful terrace with breathtaking views of the the surrounding countryside. Our host, Fabrizio, had warned us to bring provisions so we were well prepared but notwithstanding we walked down into Greve on both nights for dinner and at the end telephoned him and he came and picked us up and drove us home in his massive jeep. The setting, landscape, pool are all outstanding and it was the perfect start of a two week holiday...
