Great experience at La Cantina! We traveled to Greve from Florence on a scooter, and were ready for a little stop. This place was one of the first restaurants right of the main road near the bus stop. They have spacious outside and inside sitting. The service was excellent, not to mention we were helped and catered by owner himself, as well as other servers. They also started every table with glasses of prosecco - I prefer that over bread 👌. Even though we understand Italian and speak a little, they were kind enough to speak English which is always helpful. The prices were very reasonable for the quality. They have a gluten-free menu, as well as, great selection of local and non-local wines. I also liked the fact that I could order some of their specialties like risotto and fish for one person instead of 2, the rule you’ll find in most places (my husband is not a big fan of seafood and I can never finish 2 orders.) The pizza we ordered was crispy and flavorful - yum! The scogliera pasta was good. A bottle of wine we ordered was a nice touch to the dinner. You should try wine (they can make suggestions). Then, we were treated to shots of Vin Santo. Which is always a treat in itself. I believe they make their own wine, as we took a look inside the restaurant and saw bottles with owner’s face on it. By the way, he is very welcoming and gets the idea behind the great customer service. Grazie mille. Ci vediamo la...
Read moreWent to La Cantina in Tuscany with my wife and honestly, we really enjoyed the evening — but not because of the food. The staff were incredibly helpful, they gave us free wine and free dessert, and the whole place had a vibrant, busy atmosphere. It’s right in the middle of Greve, nicely decorated, and feels welcoming.
But the food… that’s where it fell short. My wife had the cacio e pepe which was very standard, not the freshest ingredients, and definitely not authentic. I had the short pasta ragù (bolognese) and the mushrooms tasted like they came straight from a can. The pizza dough itself was good — thin, nicely stretched in front of us — but the toppings were disappointing: black olives straight from a jar, canned artichokes, and ham so bland it felt like it came from Lidl.
Overall, the food was underwhelming, almost like a tourist trap. Still, the service and atmosphere made the experience enjoyable, which is why it’s hard to rate. I left happy, but not because of the food. Reviews online are really high, but if you’re looking for authentic Italian cooking,...
Read moreThese reviews are wrong. The guy is nice the servers are nice the wine is good the vibe is gold but the food is god awful. I wanted so bad to like the place but one bite into both me and my wife’s food and it wasn’t even edible. I had to send it back and we’re not those people I swear. There’s nothing intelligent about the food and there’s no culinary experience whatsoever behind the dishes. I should’ve known when their menu had a thousand items that we should’ve went somewhere else but the reviews were good so we thought, what the heck we’ll give it a shot. I’m not lying when I say there was absolutely no flavor whatsoever in either of the pasta dishes we had and the one we had was their so-called “specialty” some spaghetti dish that was wrapped in foil. My wife had the mushroom fettuccini dish that was garbage, and seriously not edible. Nothing is fresh, the pasta was missing everything. Everything was from a can and a pasta bag nothing fresh. Save your money. Sorry Alessandro I really am but I need to prevent someone from making the same mistake...
