Had a great stay at Royal Santina for 5 days over the easter. However there are a few things I'd like to point out but first the positive things:
First off I had booked the room directly with Best Western, I received an confirmation with the final price but after I had checked in and paid, I discovered that the receptionist had double charged us the local city tax. The next day I went to talk with the reception and I was greeted by Carlos (I believe or Carlo?) anyway I told him about the problem and he agreed that a mistake had been made, he was very apologetic and promised to sort it out for us. He wasn't at the reception on the day of our checkout so I was afraid that I had to explain over again but his colleague who handled our checkout already knew about it, and after handing over the keycards for our room he handed me a envelope with a new corrected bill where it stated that the amount we had been overcharged had been transferred back. I think this was very exceptional and I'm very happy about the way it was handled :-)!
The hotel is very close to the central train and metro station Termini in Rome, so getting around is easy.
The hotel is very nice and clean, we had our room cleaned every day and we were brought fresh towels, it's so nice to come back to a clean room after a long day of sightseeing around Rome. The staff at the hotel are also very kind and polite and the staff we talked to were all proficient in English.
We had breakfast included which is classic buffet style with a variety of yoghurt, bread, cold cuts, eggs, sausage etc nothing to complain about here.
We had a room on the 7th floor which was very hot, but the AC worked like a charm and quickly cooled down the room. There even was a small minibar/fridge that we used to cool our own drinks.
The only complaint I have are very minor but still I want to mention them - The water pressure in the shower was bad, also sometimes the water temperature would regulate it self back and forth. We didn't mention it to the staff because it was not impossible to shower, it just took a bit longer than normally.
The other thing is that I wasn't able to find a single English speaking channel on the television. Watching TV shows overdubbed by Italian voice actors isn't the most intriguing thing for me, but fortunately I had brought along an iPad and some books for entertainment. :)
All in all the stay was great and If I were to go back to Rome I would book this...
Read moreLocation: just across the street from Roma Termini, the main railway station and transit hub. It was a great spot to be in if you wanted to use the Metro to get around. Termini is the one place where Lines A and B cross each other. Compared to near station areas in other cities, I found this location to be both quiet and with a safe feeling. I did not hesitate to go out at night for some fresh air.||The rooms are sleek, stylish, and cleverly planned. All the needs are met and there's still room to move around. The bathroom included both a shower stall and a full bathtub. One odd glitch: the wardrobe was so cleverly disguised that I had to go all over the room several times to find where it was hiding. It didn't help that the door was sticky, at first, and there was no door handle, just a slight recessed edge which would be hard to grasp by the tips of your fingers if you had long nails or any injuries. ||The bed was super comfortable, and I had three nights of excellent sleep. In spite of the proximity to the station, it's not an especially noisy street, so I usually slept with the window open.||The restaurant is surprisingly fussy in appearance, by comparison with the minimal design features of the rooms. It looks like a suburban banquet hall. But it's spacious, and the service at breakfast and at dinner was good. The breakfast buffet was generous. If you see a pastry or bread you particularly like, grab it, because the selection the next day will be quite different. Although a server would bring you a cappuccino from the kitchen on request, it was a hit-and-miss question of trying to catch the servers. ||The dinner menu had a nice mix of classic Roman dishes and tourist favourites. Wine by the glass was excellent, and all the food I ordered was both delicious and unusual by the standards of North America's "Italian" restaurants. I enjoyed very much all three dinners which I ate here. ||Enough to say that if I ever return to Rome, the Royal Santina will be my first choice for a...
Read moreI would say this hotel is very good but also very disappointing in some sense. Overall, I still like this hotel since some parts of this hotel is just heavenly amazing.
The service of this hotel is super good. The receptionist Aras is super friendly, the waitress Nadia in the hotel is provide a very warm welcome and goodbye to us during checkin and checkout.
Let’s start with the good points. This hotel restaurant, sadly not found in google, is definitely the best food in Rome. Not even others 5* restaurant outside is comparable with it, especially the carbonara. I have been Rome for 6 days and found no match for the restaurant in this hotel. This part is worth a 6 stars I would say.
The next part is definitely about how warm most of the service is, you can get whatever sensical from the reception for free, like toothpaste, toothbrush, shaving. And I have to mention again Aras and Nadia are really our friends who serve us very well during Rome. We will miss you.
Now I will start with something disappointing. First, there is some minor marble scaling in the holder of shampoo/bodywash in the toilet of the room, which makes it look dirty. Next, there is no air-con during winter and you have to open the window yourself, which might attract flies outside, but luckily only one fly actually flew into our room because of this. What’s worse is that one of the receptionists at night is super impatient to us when we call him about the air-con issue, which happens on the first day. This incident really hurts the rating of this hotel a lot on the first day. Yet luckily I didn’t meet that guy anymore and Aras Nadia and the restaurant saves the 5 star from me :)
One more things I want to mention and I hope the hotel would invest is the gym. Out of 5 machines 4 of them are for cardio, which is actually pretty useless for a sporty person, while a sporty person is your target of the gym. I would suggest adding one more multi-task machine like the smith, and also dumbbells at...
