What a wonderful find! I had dinner here with two friends to round off a week's holiday, and it really was a case of "keeping the best until last". Usually, when one finds a place with so many 5-star reviews compared to other levels it raises an eyebrow, but in the case of Osteria Macondo the reviews don't lie. The decor is minimalist, well-lit with plenty of space and a view of the kitchen behind glass at the back, and it's clear that the owner went to a lot of trouble to execute his vision. Our hostess was the by-now-famous (see other reviews) Carmen, who took time to talk to us about the place and generally chat. And let's not forget the food! To start, Helen and John shared a "Risotto Alla Barbietola con Provola Affiamicata", while I had the "Insalata Macondo", a tuna salad so big it could have been a meal in its own right (and may well have been). I was unable to finish it, given that I had also requested a main course of "Baccala in Tempura..." or salted cod (the only photo I took). The risotto did not survive, and Helen continued with Pasta alla Carbonara, while John went for "Bollata di Pancia..." or roasted pork belly roll with rustic vegetables. There was no room for dessert, which was a pity, because I'm certain it would have been excellent. Service was excellent; the staff, whose names unfortunately I didn't get, were friendly and welcoming, and the evening was most enjoyable. We finished up with limoncellos (as you do), then said an Irish goodbye to Carmen, which meant standing around chatting with her for twenty minutes :) before being on our way. I fully expect to return...

The food is absolutely delicious. The focaccia was prepared like a thin pizza, it was a lighter version of a focaccia I have never had before but I really liked it. As a starter, you can order one for the table, me and my husband ordered two not expecting it to be as big as it was. So portions are as generous as the prices! For the main I had the pasta alla gracia, and it was so good - highly recommend it. The staff were lovely too, my only complaint was that although we were about to leave anyway, we sort of got gently forced out due to a large group of international students flooding in. They were super nice about it, but at the same time, what if we had been half way through a meal? My dad wasn't particularly pleased despite really enjoying his meal - but we soon got over it, we had a good time. 😂 Other than that, really lovely resturant. Great place to eat for authentic Italian food.

A DISASTER, if you enjoy a good restaurant just avoid it. Service is slow, disorganized and one guy who seems new was working extra without any support to compensate for that. A waitress looked so out of place that I had doubts she actually worked there. We had to wait way too long to order and also to get the food. The food is so disappointing being in Rome. Everyone is foreign so I guess that explains the high rating. Also, bit of advice, if I order an *antipasti* is because I want it *before* the rest of the meal. Instead everything was served at once, big mistake. Also, having to ask multiple times for the check, then to pay with card also twice and finally having to get up and go to the counter to pay…come on, just do better. If you want an amazing meal just walk 6 minutes and eat at Ciro Purpetta. You will pay the same an actually enjoy it!

I wanted to visit this restaurant today, because I red a lot of reviews which are very positive. Unfortunately I didn't have a chance to try the food. When I arrived to restaurant I needed to wait because there weren't any free tables. Few people (most probably Italian-speakers) passed me and went directly to the waiter. To my shock waiter just sat them down at the table which was just freed by other customers. I waited in the line among with one pair before us and the dark-skinned waitress (unfortunately she didn't reveal her name) didn't even respond to our hello. Suddenly the same waiter saw a familiar face in the crowd and sat the probable friend at a just-freed table. We have been waiting in the queue for more than 30 minutes suddenly claimed that that client had a reservation. I really wonder how that could have been possible - as in, when you have a reservation then the reserved table is empty and waiting for the person who has booked a reservation - I am sure that the table was not reserved and the waitress just let her acquaintance in without respecting the queue. When I confronted the waiter about that she was rude and completely ignored the fact that I said that if they treat the customer worse because he is not Italian then I will be leaving. She didn't even apologize or anything and just ignored the fact that she lost a client - I think that the owner of the restaurant would behave in a completely different way having in mind that the customer will leave around 100€ in his restaurant. What is also worth mentioning - if any of the tables was freed it would take literally 10mins just for them to clean u other table - if they did it in a much faster way then the empty tables could already be taken by waiting customers. To conclude, I felt treated in a very patronizing and unkind tone. Luckily, I managed to find another restaurant with delicious food - who were more than happy to...

Restaurant Review: A Culinary Delight at Osteria macondo During my recent visit to Osteria macondo we had the pleasure of experiencing one of the most delightful dishes I've ever tasted: the "Insalata Bufala, pomodorini." This dish was truly worth every penny and tasted absolutely heavenly. It's no wonder that this place is a popular spot among locals and visitors alike. The "Insalata Bufala, pomodorini" was a symphony of flavors, with the creamy buffalo mozzarella perfectly complementing the sweet and juicy cherry tomatoes. The freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite, making it a standout dish that I would highly recommend to anyone. In addition to the exceptional food, the restaurant offers generous portions at a great price, ensuring that you leave both satisfied and happy. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and I felt a special connection with the chef, who was easily recognizable by his white chef's hat. He stood outside, laughing heartily at my playful interactions with my wife, adding a personal touch to our dining experience. Thank you, Osteria macondo, for the delicious food and the wonderful experience. I look forward to...
