I did read all of the reviews of villa aurora before booking so I will be generous and say we had a lot of bad luck. We booked 3 nights and having travelled to Rome many times, I donât feel the need to be in the historic centre and would rather be close to where weâd like to dine in the evening (2 really really great places nearby). However, we realized very quickly on night 1 that the walls/doors are not at all soundproof and rather cheap so we heard both late arrivals/early departures coming up stone steps and banging luggage but at least that didnât last so long. On night 2 it was a different story: the people in the next room came in at 11:30 pm and had music on, loud conversations and I wonât get into what else until they finally left again at. 1:30 in the morning and then back again at 3 or 3:30 am to wake up the entire floor again. When I complained the next morning, the manager was surprised because the man had only booked a single room. He brought âguestsâ in illegally (and is illegal to not register as a guest in Italy). We insisted on a refund or a room change because we have another night to go and heâs still here. We got a room change and we are crossing our fingers that there are better neighbors on the 3rd floor. Take note, and do not come without earplugs and this is in no way a place for anyone with noise issues as the traffic outside is also loud. Neighbors donât have to be loud in order to hear them as the soundproofing is that bad. Also, choosing this place close to the tram line is also a bust because the tram is out of order so very slow and crowded buses are what youâll be stuck with (plus there were rotating strikes durning our visit). All in all I cannot recommend this place. The manager is kind and the place is clean but there are lots of places that meet that minimum standard. I donât think we should pay for 3 nights but Expedia and prepayment systems make it impossible to punish poor service by withholding payment so it has to be done...
Read moreFantastic stay at Villa Aurora rooms whilst I was in Rome.My room was clean, comfortable, and well-furnished. Fully functional air conditioning (rather than those temperamental units in other places) really was a joy to come back to during the heat of a Rome summer. But so far, I've just commented on some features of the room, rather than my experience here. What will endure in my memory as I look back was the warm, classically no-nonsense Italian hospitality I had from Donatella.Throughout my time here, she made sure I was well looked after with room cleaning, bottled water, towels etc. But I most appreciate her assistance in terms of local knowledge. Local knowledge such as a good seafood restaurant , "Trattoria del pesce" just down the road (which happens to also be in the Michelin guide); such as to not miss out on the Baths of Caracalla; and perhaps more trivially, but arguably also essential, where to do my laundry! Thank you so much for making my stay here such a pleasure Donatella, and for adding both a new Italian word and outlook to my vocabulary -...
