Peculiar decor, eastern bloc-style lobby area; felt like I was back in 70's Yugoslavia. Nevertheless the service is good, friendly and English is spoken; as with everywhere else we stayed in Sicily, they didn't make a fuss when it was 5 of us using a room for 4. The hotel was full of young Italian families during our visit, so it seems good for very small children & babies too. Behind the main lobby building are several rows of single storey chalets, all surrounded by green lawns. 2 adults & 3 teenagers stayed during August & had a very spacious 1 bed chalet with en suite bathroom (1 dble bed & 2 singles). Basic accommodation but a clean room, fresh sheets with clean towels and the usual basic toiletries provided. Overall the location is very quiet as the chalets are well away from the main road, the lobby, bar and restaurant. The chalet had an enclosed walled outdoor area with a balcony, useful for drying towels & swimming stuff on, although no seating or table. The downside was the shower which had dangerous red hot water pipes at arm level on which my daughter burnt herself. There is a modest but nice & clean (unfenced) swimming pool just outside the chalets in the communal grounds, perfect in the scorching heat. ||Just across the busy main road out front is the hotel's sandy beach, with tables, umbrellas & sun loungers free for guests to use, a 5 min walk away. The water is a bit murky here so not so good for snorkelling but overall a nice little beach which has its own drink & snack shack. The town of Punta Seca is walkable, although you take your life in your own hands walking along any Sicilian road, especially at night; parking is free so we drove in. Towards the back of this little town is a large car park. In August accommodation is virtually full everywhere and difficult to find here and in Sicily in general on spec. This is a very popular place for Italians to holiday, so my advice would be to try and book self-catering a long way ahead to ensure you get somewhere nice & cut down the cost of a family holiday. Flights booked now for next August are also very cheap. Sicilian supermarkets are excellent and full of wonderful food to be cooked, much cheaper than eating out when there are 5 of you. We also visited Montalbano's house and Enzo's restaurant during our short stay; the sandy beach in front of his house is very popular, being less crowded the further away from the house. The sea was really warm and the seabed very sandy everywhere. It seems a very safe beach as it is very shallow for a long way out here, really beautiful. A few rocky outcrops provide good snorkelling opportunities. This was the best beach we visited; apparently just west of Punta Seca there are even better secluded sandy beaches, just off the main coast road. Little tracks take you down, easily missed as you navigate with yet another car on your tail, desperate to overtake you into...
Read moreThe overwhelming feeling I took away from the Inn was space, lots of it. It’s well away from the masses using the beach but close enough (ten minutes walk..) to the restaurants in the evening. It’s also nice and quiet and this is July! We had the hedgerow-bound, pool area almost to ourselves and it’s a lovely, quiet spot to while away the early evening. The rooms are huge, modern, airy and very clean and the staff are very friendly. The continental breakfast is more than enough for anyone with a selection of cereals, sweets and cold cuts. We didn’t have a chance to use the Must restaurant to eat during the evening - I would have liked to - but we did have a drink there later on and if I had one complaint (which wouldn’t detract..) the fantastic, spacious bar area was filled with loud tango music from the dance class upstairs, whilst it may be to the taste of some it would have been great for it to have its own atmosphere, just a bit of contemporary piped music wouldn’t go amiss. Overall though if you visit Punta Secca it’s a great...
