My wife is a huge 'Solitary Gourmet' or 'Kodoku No Gurume' live series drama fan. So, she grabbed this recommendation.
Jiyuken is situated on the side alleyway and the restaurant is a traditional family restaurant. The restaurant is not spaceous and mostly hold around at most 20-25 seats. So, if its crowded, prepare to wait.
We picked the Goroset, which was popularly listed and added the additional pork set.
The Goro set was extremely heartly and filling. The crab croquette was cooked perfectly with the creamy and crab taste.
The pork chop set was out of this world. I do not know what sorcery this is but I have never had such tender pork in my life.
Please order the pork chop set, I strongly recommend it!
The price is on the cheaper side and very reasonable! Food did not take so long to serve.
We felt very bad because we arrived about 45 mins before it was closed, but the family were very nice to let us in and did not rush us.
They do provide utensils for children, but no baby-chair. They do advise you fold or set your pram aside outside the store as there is no place to...
Read moreI timed my arrival at this small restaurant very well (by accident). I arrived and sat down and within 10 minutes all seats were full and there was a queue outside waiting to get in.
It’s run by an elderly couple with what looks like family support. The place is so small/cute that the wife takes your order at the table, and turns around and shouts it to her husband in the kitchen.
The curry was tasty although a slightly different flavour from what I was used to. Portions are very generous - you won’t leave feeling hungry.
Highly recommend but you may have to wait if you don’t get lucky with timing like I did. One point to note is that you need to go down a very short alley to find it - it doesn’t seem that way on...
Read moreWe came here without realising how popular this place already is. It was featured in “Solitary Gourmet”, and thus the Goro set was born. It’s a cosy little shop that’s family run. The people there speak minimal English but the menu has English/mandarin labels. You’d also be able to get by using Google translate or just point at the menu. The lady that served us was earnest and tried her best to communicate with us. Highly recommend getting the crab croquettes that we couldn’t get enough off. The grilled pork chop went well with rice. We didn’t opt for the large miso soup with pork and egg that was featured in the show and massively regretted that. This place...
