We stayed on a Monday because we were avoiding the weekend crowds. It worked because we were the only ones using the baths. We got a traditional Japanese Tatami Room rather than the western style. The room was clean and had a hot pot with hot water already in it for the tea they had in the room. There was a tea set and a few sweets. A small fridge was there for our use, so we bought a couple sodas to store in it. Although, this hotel was clean and by Japanese standards reasonably priced, there were a few things that I was not thrilled with. There were two onsen baths on the 10th floor, which is the top floor so there are no gawking eyes. (You bathe naked of course). Getting off the elevator, if you go through the doors straight ahead, there is the wash area and indoor baths which accomodate about 25 people. If you turn left off the elevators, there is another indoor bath and wash stations that accomodate another 20 people. Then there is a door that goes to the outdoor baths made to look like you're out in nature. This was the best, with an additional 5 outdoor wash stations. I love this so I could cool off with the shower and then get back in to soak some more. The part I wasn't thrille with??? The schedule was women from 3:30pm til 7:30pm and men from 8:00pm til 9:30 the next morning. So, women can only use the baths for a few hours. There were two sets of baths, so why couldn't they have one for men and the other for women? Another complaint......the hotel staff came to lay out our futons on their schedule. My significant other was napping and I tried to convey to them to come back a little later. They not only insisted on doing it right then and there, but was pushing on the door to hold it open, when I was trying to close it, so I could wake my other half and have him put some clothes on before they entered the room. It became a kind of shoving match them on the outside of the door and me on the inside. One last complaint.......the breakfast was not so good. The Japanese (and not to be prejudiced because I'm half Japanese) just can't cook American breakfast foods. Eggs were nasty as was sausages, etc. This isn't the only hotel like this. I've been to others and they were the same. I have learned to eat the Japanese breakfast of miso soups, fish, rice, etc. It is much better. All in all, it was okay, but next time, I will check with the hotel to make sure there was not an alternating schedule for men and women in the baths. I'll try a different...

Read more5/6/2025 - This 3-star rated Onsen hotel has a bigger guest room that compromised of one Japanese-style Tatami room and one Western-style room. The premium Guest Room is outstanding per Japanese Onsen Hotels' standard.
The indoor commutal baths, which are based on chloride springs, are aged, which needs to be resurfaced, in addition, it needs more ventilation to get rid of a little bit of stink in a corner area. In Atami, almost all ONSENs are chloride springs, while the entire Japan only has 23% of sulfate springs, which are beneficial for skin conditions and high blood pressure (Source: Dr. Uchida's lecture on medical effects of hot springs)
The buffet-style breakfast and Kaiseki dinner are okay (3.5 stars).
The hotel has three Shuttle Vans for a complimentary pickup and drop off service at Atami Station.
I would rate this hotel as a 4-star hotel if the two indoor commutal baths are upgraded with 1) getting rid of aged granite walls; 2) some rusted aluminum handrails; 3) no any unpleasant smell at a corner area, etc.
Note: The regular Guest Room here indeed is better than the regular Guest Room at Kamenoi Hotel Amami Annex, which is rated as a 4-star ONSEN hotel.
P.S. Needs to adjust two elevators' closing door time to avoid hitting 2nd or 3rd guests while entering the...
