Tenseien — Hotel in Hakone

Tenseien is a good relaxing hotel in Hakone. Although it is a pure Japanese style ryokan, it looks so clean and warm. This hotel is a bit too far from Hakone Yumoto station but you can come there by walk or use shuttle bus from station to hotel. If you use the shuttle bus it takes about 5 minutes but it cost 100 yen per person. In case you walk to hotel, it takes about 15 minutes. Though it is not short distance, you can feel the wonderful air of nature. Whether you use the shuttle bus or walk to the hotel is up to you. Then maybe you have a lot of luggage when you travel, you can leave your some pieces of baggage in hotel until you check in. So you can go sightseeing with few bags until the check-in time. || There are two beautiful waterfalls in the garden and there are some cute ducks. These waterfalls are big. When you get close to them, you feel water spray. You can feed them for about 100 yen. If you have some foods, many ducks may get close to you. If you love animals, it is good for you! If you hate animals, please just see them from some distance. It is a better choice to spend some time there until dinner.|| In this hotel, you can enjoy a buffet style dinner and breakfast. The evening meal and breakfast are included in the accommodation fee. There are many choices so you can’t decide which to eat. Sushi, Tempura, Shabu-Shabu, any other side dishes and desserts are all-you-can -eat. Moreover, a chef offered special juicy steaks and you can have one plate of each at once. Trying to choose what to eat is one of the pleasures of travel. If you stayed in this hotel more than two nights, you could get upgraded super . For example, you can use a private room so you are able to feel relaxed when you have a meal with your partners. The dinner room “Tsukimitei” is available from 17:30 to 20:00. Although buffet dinner and breakfast is so good, this room is busy after 18:00. If you want to avoid eating dishes in a crowded room you should come there before peak time. || After dinner, I recommend you take a hot spring bath. Some room don’t have shower room, so you can go to large common bath in the hotel. s included in the room charge, so you don’t need to pay extra fee.There are some big and clean outdoor baths. You can enjoy many kinds of onsen. You also can enjoy taking a bath while viewing natural scenery in open-air baths. Especially, night view was so good. We (two familes - four adults and three children) stayed here in late June and really enjoyed our stay. ||||We only stayed one night and we arrived late so we didn't get to experience Hakone as much as we would have liked. Tenseien was great. ||||After you exit the station (you cross over a road). You will be a few yards away from a shuttle stop. Stand in line for Shuttle A - cost is 100 yen per person but young kids are free. There is a tourist information site next to the stop which was helpful and they spoke English. The shuttle ride is about 5-7 minutes. You could walk to the ryokan but the roads are narrow and there aren't dedicated sidewalks.||||The shuttle leaves you at the end of the driveway. Once you enter, you leave your shoes in lockers. ||||The check in process was fairly quick. Their English was limited but Google translate got our questions answered. We got a room with an open air onsen. The room was large and had good airconditioning. The bathroom was a good size with two sinks. The shower had great water pressure! In addition there is another separate toilet which could be helpful. when you first arrive the room has a table with chairs but when we returned from dinner, the futons were out.||||We chose to have the buffet meals as I wasn't sure my kids would enjoy the fully Japanese meal. We were happy with our choice. For dinner they gave us a private room. There was a variety of Japanese, Chinese and western food. While not everything was exceptional most of it was good. I was surprised that the steak was actually pretty good. Everyone left satisfied - one even listed it as one of the best meals of the trip. Breakfast also had a mix of foods. Again left satisfied. ||||The hotel grounds were very nice. We enjoyed the two waterfalls, gardens and the kids had fun feeding the koi and ducks. There is a small gift shop and a small arcade.||||My wife got a massage there I believe it was about $60 for an hour. She really enjoyed it.||||The onsen was great. I was worried that we wouldn't enjoy it since it was a muggy summer day but by evening the temperatures were much cooler and the onsen was very relaxing. ||||Overall we had a great time here and everyone said they wished we had booked to stay here longer...
