Sushi Sho in Hakone Yumoto deserves multiple Michelin Stars. The meal tonight was flawless, the ingredients incredible and the staff perfectly attentive.
Whilst there was a language barrier, Hiromichi Miki and the rest of the team made every effort to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The whole team was incredibly nice.
The food: so many dishes, so many different types of fish. The tuna and squid was especially amazing. They even made me like Ikura and Uni, two ingredients which I normally cannot do.
The sake: flawlessly paired with the dishes.
So many great things I can say about this restaurant but I think the biggest point I can make being from Australia is this. Omakaze restaurants in Australia don’t even come close to the quality of Sushi Sho.
Final thoughts: Do yourself a favour and spend the money to truly enjoy what is an unforgettable experience.
Sushi Sho is on a quiet street so you will be able to relax whilst enjoying amazing food. Enough of my rambling, just go. You won’t regret it!!!
P.S. The only suggestion I can make is that the team need to add an English version to their site. I had to do some google translate to help sort...
Read moreIncredible experience. If you are traveling to Hakone to go see Mount Fuji, make a special stop just to eat here. We had the lunch special Omakase experience, and I bet the dinner one must be unbeatable too. The quality of the fish is exquisite, the amount of care the Chef puts into crafting each piece, and the attentiveness of the staff really made our experience unforgettable.
The only downside is that the food was so superb, every other omakase experience we’ve been having on our Japan trip has not matched (haha), because this restaurant set the bar so high for us. My favorite pieces were the smoked fatty tuna, and the sea urchin thinly wrapped in seaweed.
We did appreciate the authenticity while they were also able to cater to us as we speak no Japanese (oops). The menus were in English and we were able to choose what we wished (out of the 2 available lunch omakase experiences) and pick drinks easily (we had the Sapporo and a Whiskey-soda that complemented the food so well and was refreshing on this warmer day).
Overall, would highly recommend and we’re already considering coming back to this town just for...
Read moreI had my hotel call ahead to this restaurant to clearly explain that I don’t eat shellfish or squid, and they confirmed they could accommodate my dietary restrictions. They also told the hotel the omakase course would be ¥13,000. However, upon arrival, the English menu listed the price as ¥14,600. When I mentioned the price I was quoted, they said “okay, okay” and agreed to charge ¥13,000.
Despite the advance notice and confirming my name on arrival, the first dish served included shellfish—exactly what I had asked to avoid. They then served me uni, and later squid, all after I reminded them of my dietary restrictions. The staff seemed surprised and irritated that I didn’t eat shellfish, even though this was made clear in the reservation. Eventually, they agreed to give me a few pieces of tuna, salmon, and other fish, but the entire experience felt unwelcoming.
To top it off, the final bill was higher than expected. Overall, I did not feel accommodated or respected as a customer. I would not recommend this restaurant if you have any dietary preferences or...
