The Rareage Hakone-Yumoto by Mloc — Hotel in Hakone

Dirty and cluttered. Stained bedding, dirty toilet, does not seem to have been cleaned between guests. Would be a really nice place if it was cleaned up and stuff put in storage.

UPDATE: you told me you'd had a previous cancellation and cancelled the cleaning but forgot to de-list the property. Below you say you had to reschedule friends who were going to visit - which is it? Given that no cleaning was scheduled until after we left, checking in early didn't make any difference to you. While the $7 bottle of wine was a nice gesture it doesn't really qualify as a "discount". And for the record it was not raining in Hakone when we arrived, the rain was in Takayama.

The folks who stayed previous to us and left a 5 star review also said they left the apartment clean, but that was far from the truth.

You did warn us we'd need to wash the bedding, and we were happy to take that on. Beyond that though we spent quite a bit of money for the privilege of cleaning the toilet, sorting and disposing of the trash (as well as cleaning out the trash can) and disposing of the science experiment gone horribly wrong in the fridge.

As for finding places that would be "delighted to welcome our type", I wonder what you think that is exactly.

Simply incredible that a place like this is available in Airbnb… Located in an unmatched location whiting 45 minutes by train from Tokyo, with an amazing nature and incredible local food restaurants. No need to mention the amazing onsen places nearby, famously within Japanese culture and widely recognized worldwide. In addition to it, cannot thank enough the attention and flexibility the host gave us for our trip, with an PRIVATE ONSEN included in the loft building. There is all you might need in your visit to Hakone and probably everything you were wondering during your trip yo Japan. Simply enough, simply great, thanks Colm for such an amazing experience!! My 1-night stay here was perfect! Colm, the host was extremely responsive and accommodating for my partner and I. The view from the balcony was beautiful. Alongside the unit, there’s a private sauna that you can reserve for an hour.

Colm even got my partner and I a reservation at a lovely small restaurant, only a 500m walk away.

Hakone is a beautiful town, but the public transport is much slower compared to Tokyo. Expect lots of traffic during peak seasons and bring your walking shoes. There were convenience stores, shops, and restaurants all close...
