Box Burger: A Hakone Hidden Gem!

Our lunch at Box Burger in Hakone was an absolute delight, far surpassing all expectations! Tucked away in a small, unassuming building just off the main street, this place is a true hidden gem.

From the moment you step inside, the attention to detail is evident. The restaurant is impeccably clean, and the request to remove your shoes at the entrance adds a charming touch, contributing to the serene atmosphere. Guests have the choice of a traditional Japanese-style dining room or a more casual cafe setting, both offering a comfortable and inviting ambiance.

The menu is impressive, catering to all tastes with a wide range of both meat and vegetarian options. The ability to customize orders is a huge plus, ensuring everyone finds something they love. We were particularly impressed with the selection of local beers, which paired perfectly with our meals. For the younger diners, the homemade lemonade was a big hit!

Have been to Hakone many times, but first to visit this particular area and tracked down this new branch of Box Burger. A very interesting set up where the interior feels very traditional Japanese yet serving modern burgers. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Burger was not close to the best I had but still very impressive, perhaps the double patty version would have been better. I will definitely come again when it's warmer so I can also enjoy their matcha milkshake next time. Price wise was a little on the high side, for the price it should include the chips complimentary (or a soft drink too), however I did factor in they are located in a very tourist location where everything is just a bit more expensive, so it was to be expected. Several others have commented on the price too so would be great if the owners can take note.

A Perfect Honeymoon Stop!

My wife and I stopped at Box Burger in Hakone during our honeymoon, and it was an incredible experience! I tried the veggie burger, and I was thrilled to discover they offered vegan mayo, which perfectly aligned with my dietary restrictions. The staff were exceptionally friendly and made us feel so welcomed. After eating we had such a nice talk with them to get to know more about the background of the business and they even helped us out with recommendations of things to do in Hakone! Being new to the area, that really felt comforting.

The ambiance was delightful, with two distinct seating styles to choose from—Japanese style (sitting on the ground) and Western style (sitting at a table). We sat in the Japanese style room and it was a very cozy experience. We couldn’t be happier with our decision to eat here; it truly enhanced our trip.
