I almost hesitate to write a review because it’ll make it harder for me to get a reservation in the future but here goes…this place is nearly perfect. We stayed here for 9 nights, 2 parents + 3 teenagers and a 6 year old and stayed in a 3 bedroom 3 bath with mountainside views. This is our fifth or sixth time in Hakuba. Probably about our 15th time renting a ski place for a large family. This is probably my favourite so far. It was not cheap, but it was really wonderful. Worth the price for the location, service, and no-hassle amenities and space. We will definitely stay here again.
Details are taken care of. Location is unreal - right at the Kokusai Lift, one of the long quads in the middle of Happo One.
Service from Enka (great English), Sakura, Taka, Aki and Dean was fantastic.
The units are lovely and comfortable with high quality touches. A window bench along the whole side looking out on the mountain. The view of the mountain is phenomenal. Large kitchen table with plenty of room for 6 people. Nice kitchen with gas stove and oven and island. Good quality dishes, glasses (that don't break easily), good quality utensils (like Henckels knives) and cooking ware. I liked that they include basics like pepper and salt and Saran Wrap and foil so you don't have to purchase everything when you'll just use one square. Living room is spacious with high quality leather furniture that you can relax in. TV has Netflix and similar apps - local shows are pretty poor if you don’t speak Japanese. We could not figure out how to sling our iPad. High quality appliances like clothes washer, refrigerator/freezer, dish washer, vacuum cleaner and JBL Charge III portable speaker - best appliances we've encountered. Good sized bedrooms with windows, ensuite bathrooms. Humidifiers in every room and the living room. Climate control is very good - heated floors, too. Showers, pressure and temperature are very good, too. Master bath tub is lovely. Lighting, heating, intercom - all work well. Windows - good shades, and they open. Only complaint is that auto motion-detection lighting in the hallway is too bright - wakes up people sleeping when you open the door to do early morning work in the living room.
Amenities are good. There is cleaning service every day (I think some days are more thorough than others). They provide things like toilet paper, kitchen towels, new sponges, dish soap , laundry detergent. Refresh towels and make beds. They clear the sink but you wash your own dishes. You buy your own groceries but their shuttle can take you to the supermarket. Decent bath amenities such as razors, shaving cream, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, conditioner. Would be nice if they added body lotion since you can't carry it on the plane and you don't need to buy a whole bottle for a few days. Downstairs by the entrance, a nice, clean, warm dry room with good sized lockers downstairs for your ski equipment plus easy arrangement with Rhythm Rentals or Spicy for leaving your rentals at Mountainside once you're done with them. Really wonderful place.
Note: If you want to stay in the middle of the village, don't stay here. The village is a 12 minute walk away. They take you there by shuttle whenever you want - it's a
Read more5 stars! Mountain Side Hakuba is an absolutely gem. Things we loved most: •Easy communication - when booking, they communicated everything we needed to know through email •Transportation offered - they offered to pick us up from Happo Bus terminal (Nagano bus terminal for a fee) / transportation during stay was included with reservation •Nice and helpful staff - James, Misa, and everyone else were so kind, always opened the door for us, helped us with our stuff, came to our room to help us figure things out, call taxis for us •Convenience - along with their excellent email communication and shuttle service, they offered rental pick up from their dry room so you don’t have to walk it back •Location - in shock about the beauty. It is right across the slopes and we were able to get on first thing in the morning and last ride up. It’s also so close to other slopes. •Property - the property is small enough to feel private and the room is large enough that it comfortably fit 6 of us. They even accommodated our bed preferences.
There’s nothing bad about this place. We wish we didn’t have to leave.
I feel like there’s no place that can compare. We had an AMAZING experience and can’t...
Read moreOur family of four stayed at Mountainside for 3 nights and LOVED IT! Our apartment was gorgeous, modern, so clean, and so comfortable. I am very picky when it comes to cleanliness and this place exceeded my expectations. It came with everything you need, from kitchen utensils and supplies to a washer and dryer with detergent, to more luxurious touches like heated floors and heated towel racks! Ugh, I want to go back right now! And the staff was out of this world. I'd like to give a special shout out to Sakura and her husband, Aki. We couldn't figure out how to put chains on our tires to drive home so Sakura called her husband Aki, who came and basically figured it out for us and helped my husband put the chains on. I honestly think we'd still be there if it wasn't for Sakura and her very kind husband. LOCATION: You can't beat the location - ski in ski out. Walking distance to the small town and restaurants... It was just the perfect getaway. If we weren't leaving Japan, we'd make it an annual...
