The most horrible stay and experience ever *this comment is to WARN all of you who is considering this hostel. We stayed there for 5 nights in a double room and the rent was similar to the hostels in that area. *Dirty room and bedding* Dust snd spider web in the room, like furniture and carpet. Creepy strain on the bedding (coffee dirt? blood?) We had running nose for all nights! *Aged facilities* There is storage area for keeping ski equipment like most of the hostels near any ski resort. But this is the worst one! Again dust and spider web, dark and everything are broken ie. feels like it will collapse. There is dryer but rusty, and never turn-on, even our gear got wet after snowy days. The host always turned the dryer off whenever it is on, for energy saving they said… *No drop-off or pickup* They do not offer any transport from place to place, which is rare for hostels near any Japan ski area. With luggage and ski equipment, we had to walk/ take taxi to the bus terminal. Two good things : close to the slope (7min walk) and warm with heater.

Great little mom & pop Japanese restaurant. There were only 4 tables but there was still an open table at 1830 when we left after our meal (opens at 1800). They’ve figured out a way to serve foreign tourists & seemed to even accept some credit cards (not sure which as we paid cash). Yakisoba was great!

Homely and relaxed Izakaya with tables and chairs. Delicious and authentic Japanese food made and served by a Japanese couple who are probably great grandparents. Thoroughly recommend!

This room at the Pension 70 was far from what we expected. We understood the pension was similar to a hostel, but I don't think it's excusable for some of the conditions. Our room was OK--separate beds with sleeping pads on a wooden shelf. Both our hips were sore after sleeping on them. The entire pension and building is freezing, to the point where we could see our breath in the hallways. Not exactly comfortable after a day skiing, especially since the rooms are still somewhat pricey. There are spiderwebs and dust in the rooms and washrooms and one of the rooms had a clogged sink and plumbing and an unbearable odor.

The owners are friendly, to a point. We did get yelled at for not taking our shoes off inside the house and they refused a refund to friends after leaving early (they got the smelly room). Otherwise, they were mostly friendly.

Fortunately, the showers are good and hot, just on a different floor and the rooms were quiet, just not very upkept.

There are silver linings of course. It's a great location and the restaurant has good reviews and they have a ski storage room. We made it through our stay fine, but I wouldn't...

Went here for dinner- waited 2 hours for the food to come. Place was full house- yet the table that arrived the latest was served first (like all their food while everyone else literally had water) bc the lady (I think she was from Hong Kong?) bullied the old couple into serving her family (husband, son, her parents) first. They were comically and embarrassingly loud and kept rudely chasing the old couple to serve their food which they proceeded to eat in an equally comical and embarrassing manner? And every time we were served this family literally turned around to glare at us even though they were already served? Very odd and strange behaviour, not very sure if it’s normal in their country, or if there was just something wrong with them as people (eg character problem).

I would say food is ok, wait is long, hope you better luck with less abnormal co- customers? Or if you’re a psychiatrist you may enjoy analysing why some people are the way they are based on the strange behavior of their...
