This place was amazing, we had such a great time. Paul was so accommodating - gave us a ride to town, to the slopes (one day we went to Goryu / Hakuba 47 just to check out a different ski area), and to the Yamato transport place so we could send our luggage to Tokyo and to the airport (side note - highly recommend using Yamato to send your luggage from the airport to your hotel(s), very inexpensive and fast, then you don't have to drag your stuff with you on the trains, especially ski gear). Paul and all the staff were so welcoming and nice. The place is clean, simple and homey. The free breakfast was much more than I was expecting - eggs, meat, toast, and a side every morning at 7:30 am, plus self-serve yogurt, cereal, juice, etc. The lift for Happo One was a very short walk from the lodge - easy to get on the slopes. Nice ski and boot storage at the entrance to the lodge, so you don't have to lug your stuff up stairs or anything. Short walk to a few nice places to eat - we enjoyed Izakaya Kaz but you need reservations. Paul will also give you a ride to town where there are more options / a cute street to walk down. If you're coming to Hakuba via train (which I highly recommend), taxis are few and far between - but just give the lodge a call and Paul can pick you up. Paul and Tracy speak English so communication was easy. We would love to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAffordable, old-style Japanese room with the tatami mats, and a 5 minute walk (or less) to the kokusai lift. The room was spacious enough for sleeping at night and there's always the downstairs to hang out if you want more room or a work desk. The bathroom is small, but I didn't mind since there is a nice bidet toilet, plus shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, and razors. Oh, and a hair dryers.
I stayed for 3 nights and the breakfast was FANTASTIC every day and the staff were super helpful and friendly. Also, I saw someone wrote that they wanted Japanese style breakfast... while that sounds "exotic" it's also a bad idea pre-snowboarding. The breakfast they served kept me full and NOT freezing cold, even in a blizzard at the top of the mountain. There's also laundry on site so you can wash all your gross sweaty snowboarding clothes before you leave.
This hotel is a 5-10 minute walk to shabushabu (if you want traditional Japanese cuisine), a pub (with pizza), and a 15 minute walk to other Japanese cuisine for dinner. The area is quiet, very safe, just remember that cars drive on the other side of the road (if you're...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām usually the type of person who likes the big chain hotels, but we wanted to stay very close to the slopes, so gave this hotel a try. ||And we were so happy we did. The owners, Paul and Tracy, and their staff bent over backwards to help us and were so friendly and lovely, offering ice creams and a freshly restocked chocolate basket every day. ||Donāt expect luxury accommodation, but it was clean, close to the slopes and everything was great. The breakfast was different every day, and the attitude of the owners made it a brilliant stay. ||Very cute, warm lounge to relax in at night. ||All the small touches made it worth it, like the owners putting out our ski gear every morning. Would recommend if you want to be very close to the slopes. Not cheap, but nothing really is in Hakuba. And we were happy...
