Nishitetsu has impressed with a line of business hotels which offer just a bit more flair than the usual business hotel Spartan drabness. The Kochi branch continues that flair.||I had a friendly and quick check- in and was given Room 1223, a double bed room looking north towards the main train station. The room was clean, bright and well- organized. There were not so many amenities in the room, since they put them in the lobby and between check- in and elevator, you can choose what you want to use from a wide range, a good idea.||The bed was comfortable and the room was very quiet, no noise from the outside or from neighbors.||The bathroom was a bit smaller than usual, even for a business hotel, and the tub was so small that I could not have sat upright with my legs stretched forward. But it was spotlessly clean and everything worked well.||Breakfast is in the back of a Lawson conbini adjacent to the lobby. It’s an excellent buffet, with the traditional Japanese items and additionally fried noodles with cabbage, fried eggs, and a really good battered fried fish. The fried fish didn’t look like much but the taste reminded me of my fave Cambridge chippie on Mill Road. And yes, it’s great for breakfast ;-) I had to hold back or I would have stuffed myself.||The setting is along the restored canal. The bridge which gives the hotel and neighborhood its name is also adjacent to the hotel. There is an arcade just a wink north, but even on a Saturday evening there was not much going on – it has seen better days, and hopefully the Nishitetsu , canal restoration along its modest length and other projects will help revive the arcade, too. There is a wonderful Bonito restaurant in the arcade. The hotel is also at the cross of a couple of tram lines, and very near the airport limo bus. If you want to walk from the main train station, it’s 800m, not so far and a straight path from the station, very easy.||All in all, it’s an excellent value, great location and worth...
Read moreThe hotel is located in the center of Kochi city. From the hotel, Kochi castle and Kochi castle history museum, shopping streets, Ryoma's birth place, good local restaurants are all walking distance. You can take trams to go to the castle if you are tired of walking, the tram stop is just 30 sec away from the hotel.||If you want to go to Katsurahama and Ryoma museum, you will need to take a bus. The bus station to Katsurahama is also 30 sec walk.||Even though the hotel is located in the center of the city, you don't hear noise in the night. Ah, yes you are not in Manhattan NY, so the city is not busy in the night. After 9PM, there are few cars outside.||The room is small, just like NY hotels, you don't have space to open your suite case on the floor, but i could manage it.||Breakfast area is also small and it gets crowded if you want to take it at 6:30, but they don't stay long, so you will find a seat if you wait 5-10 minutes, while you are taking food from buffet area. I think there is an option not to include breakfast in your plan. There are not so many breakfast alternatives around the hotel, but you can just buy bread and coffee at the convenience store in the first floor.||The best thing in this hotel is that they offer FREE smartphone during your stay. Yes, it is free of charge. You can even call international. you can take the smartphone outside and look up maps, search interesting points, and restaurants.||it is just 10 minutes Kochi station, if you have a big suite case, you might want to take a cab or a tram, but if you have only carry-on bags, it is easy flat walk from the station.||This hotel is better than the hotels in front of Kochi station. very...
Read moreAttended a convention at Kochi Japan and was booked by a travel agency for my 5 days stay at Nishitetsu Inn. Looked at the previous reviews and was told that it was clean and the location was ideal for a tourist. ||Pros: ||Staff was courteous. Location was good. Plenty of nearby restaurants.||Cons: ||I was given a smoking room and I am allergic to smoke. The odor was so strong it is as if I am the one smoking. (Must be the central ventilation). I requested if I can be transferred on a later time or date but to no avail. Was told it was fully booked even if I can see guests leaving (checking out) on the succeeding dates. A day or two does matter.||Room was small around 3.5x5m (includes the bathroom) with a very small window. Not ideal if you are a bit claustrophobic. ||Was given a meal ticket for breakfast. On the last day, I noticed that I lacked 1 stub. Told the front desk of my concern and was initially being asked to pay. They eventually gave one after saying that I will just write...
