Komoro Grand Castle Hotel — Hotel in Komoro

I was looking for a cheap basic hotel to stay for a night in Komoro and this hotel was the only one available.

The location is excellent and the service was good, and it was very reasonably priced.

So why the one star? The fridge in the room. It was unbelievably loud and I had trouble sleeping because of it. I didn’t notice how loud it was until around 11pm because I had the room air conditioning on, which meant the fridge didn’t have to work so hard. When I switched the air conditioning off, the fridge’s regulator started to kick in every twenty minutes or so and it was LOUD. It was definitely louder than the hoover I use at home. I looked for the switch but I couldn’t find it and I couldn’t even access the plug so I couldn’t switch it off.

If I had known earlier, I would have gone down to the reception and asked them to change my room but it was nearly midnight and I was way too tired, from the near 30km hike I did during the day.

The hotel has the feel of a typical hotel that was built during Japan’s economic “bubble” period. It probably prospered during the eighties/nineties but subsequently had a drop in customer numbers and less funds to maintain and upgrade the facilities, hence the overall tired feel of...

Large hotel with a great view of the surrounding area. Located within easy walking distance of the train station, very central and at the entrance to the castle ruins. Room was spacious, and well furnished, but the bathroom was slightly dated, however did have a modern toilet. This hotels clientele is Japanese by a vast majority, but staff and signs are multilingual, unlike what I'd heard. As this hotel is in a city which does not get too many foreigners, and is off the traditional tourist route, I was genuinely surprised at how welcomed I was by both staff and guests. Very charming! Cleanliness could be worked on, and does need updating, but the feel of the whole place more than makes up for...

My parents stayed at the Grand Castle Hotel as part of an international group with a guide travelling from Australia. My mother had a number of personal items stolen from the room after the second night of their stay, that had disappeared after cleaning. It took more than a day to locate the lady who was responsible for the cleaning but she said she didn’t know anything and reception was seemingly unable to help and did not investigate.
