Dennoch muss man oft Schlange stehen.

This was actually a nice hotel to stay at, excellent front lobby staff who were very efficient, having clean rooms, in a location very convenient to shopping and the Castle. The problem is my group was staying here for World Cup game, and they raised prices 300% for game day. Ok- so goes from 4 star to 3 star, I understand they are a business. The 1-star rating is because despite assurances from Kyushu tourism that tattoos would be overlooked my friend was denied entrance to the hotel onsen. Now goes from 3 stars to 2 stars... But they didn’t even offer a bandage or coverup, and my friend who loves Japan went away feeling rejected. Really, these rules meant for Yakuza should not apply to Rugby fans who spent over 300,000 yen in Japan for the trip. Will he come back? Maybe, but that was a bad experience for everyone involved. ¥¥¥ Edited portion below after seeing Dormy Inn’s reply: Your staff should have offered the bandages in the sento entrance, as my friend had no idea such things existed. If they did, you’d get 3 stars. I’ve been in Japan 12 years so know the “japan old ways” speech, and abide by it believe me or I would not be here for 12 years. But it’s a big chuckle here because with your 300% overcharge rates and Rugby World Cup in town there wasn’t one Japanese person staying at your hotel. Please understand if you charge rack rate 300% then maybe add some of that spirited omotenashi too like the good hotels...

we stayed kumamoto dormy inn for 2 nights. the location is great and convenient. i would like to thank the chinese reception staff for being very helpful for information and lending me to use the phone to make a local call which made our trip more smoothly and worthy.

But the third day when we checked out, the Indian(or maybe from sirilanka not quite sure ) reception staff was a bit rude. we already checked out but just wanted to put our hiking backpacks 🎒 there for several hours. As a reception staff, she should have used polite words but she didn’t.(even speak English there are plenty of english polite words too, as a hotel staff you should speak and behave politedly.) Instead, she didn’t even give us clear guidance for waiting in the reception area, i carried my heavy backpack and waited her in another corner of the reception desk and then she walked out of the counter and waved hand to me like waving 👋 and not even polite body posture. The whole time she showed us was typical laziness and carelessness. i don’t like this kind of attitude when she works as a hotel reception. She definitely NEED more...

Quite a nice hotel but with typical small rooms. The double beds were a tad narrow but still provided a good sleep. Rooms had a mid-sized safe which was useful, as well as a small fridge. There were also a set of lounging PJs that you could wear to the onsen on the 13th floor. The male onsen got crowded in the evenings but had a nice outdoor pool as well. There are washer and dryers - washers are free while dryers are 100 yen for around 30 minutes which is ample for a small load. Location is good with easy walking access to the main tourist attractions, as well as food options across the street at Sakuramachi and the covered shopping areas a few minutes away. We had to change our room from the 4th to the 7th floor as the first room was next to the smoking room (we had requested a non smoking room) and the smell pervaded the whole corridor and our room. That did not help my wife, who is asthmatic. Discounted parking is available across the road at Main 24 for larger cars. For Kcars and smaller ones there is parking below the hotel.

We originally planned to stay at Dormy inn for three days, the worst experience in the hotel made us to rearrange only stay for 2 days and the rest of the day, we decided to stay in other hotel. 1. ♨️The onsen was small and I saw a guy with large tattoo wandering around. When I was bathing before entering the onsen, a man keep moaning in the cold water area. 2. Our bathroom was full with moldy and dirt. 3. When we had the one day early check out, the China woman (one of their client) did not asked anything at first. Yet when we get out the hotel front door, she ran out and tried to figure it out by asking rude questions of why do we have early check out. After giving her our opinions and reasonable reasons, she just walked away without saying any titles. e.g. sorry for the inconvenience. The worst hotel experiences at Komamoto!

Excellent location! Just about a ten minutes walk to the main shopping belt. The hotel comes with an onsen which is a signature of the dormy inn chain of hotels. The onsen was rustic and felt so good to use it at the end of each day. Coffee was free as well. Right outside the onsen, the ice cream were free to eat too. Not to forget, the free ramen every night for supper. Morning wise, they had the yakult drinks made available for free as well. Always thought that the chain of hotels offer good value and comfortable stay throughout Japan. Not extremely big rooms but it was ok if you were using it simply to sleep every night. As expected of most Japanese hotels, the rooms were clean and equipped with the necessary items like hairdryer and Japanese green tea bags.
