Hotel Spax Kusatsu — Hotel in Kusatsu

I have been to Kusatsu several times. I really want to like this place but it’s just far below the bar for the price. The room itself, the location, and the onsen are fine, but the food and the service at the restaurant are just appalling.

I stayed for two nights, and two nights at dinner they pair us with a waiter in training…they were so inexperienced, to the point I feel bad for them, as their management just leave them out on the floor with such a little experience to run a dinner course. They are so nervous when they fail to deliver the course in the right order or drop a straw or forget to deliver a request I asked earlier… to the point I just can’t relax and enjoy the dinner. On top of that, the food is very bland, and almost tastes pre-cooked. It just not what I expect for the 2-day vacation.

Kind of disappointed especially I have a relatively high expectations because of the good reviews across multiple online...

Stayed here for 1 night, on the day i arrived it was raining the staff spare no effort in helping to unload the bags from the transport. The check in process was quick and efficient, my family and I were offered a cup of hot green tea which helped to warm ourselves a little as it was quite cold especially my elderly mother found it a blessing to have a hot cup of tea.||We were also offered a welcome drink coupon which we could use later. Room wise was spacious and was tatami style which was something that was particulary enjoyable as the weather was quite cold and made sleeping all the more cozy. After our stay at Nikko, Spax felt underwhelming.Truth be told, it is more due the location of kusatsu which is an onsen town. Spax was more a place to rest for the night and not much can be expected from it.The photos look way better than actual. Could be the hotel is in the process of renovation. Our room just happened to have more tape patching things up. Actually i don't think i have stayed in a hotel with tape holding things together.That said, the staff makes up for the lacking by their gentle manners, serving of tea and coffee...
