名勝西の河原公園を東から入るとまもなく、湧き出す温泉の池のほとりに恐ろしくも愛矯を感じさせる鬼の姿を刻んだ碑があります。 かつては西の河原の代表的な源泉で、茶釜が沸騰するような音を立てて湯を吹き出していたそうです。「わき出る湯口はわれもおそろしや鬼の茶釜の湯土産噺」に、当時の様子がうかがえます。
