This is one of the best capsule hotel/ resort (japanese type), that I've ever stayed at so far. But why only 3 stars? Let me explain slowly.
Pros: Cool design. Like you're in a space ship with everyone. Staffs very professional and dress like a luxury hotel. Very nice design and ambiance on the lounge. Free drinks/ snacks/ tea.
Cons: It's all the men on the 2nd floor, women on the 3rd. But the whole floor is one giant continuous hall shared amongst probably near 100 people. While this looks intimidating at first, the noise really isn't that bad (if your neighbors are okay). It's not bad but not good either. Check-in and check-out time. Okay hear me out. I'm from a country with a very generous policy (usually in and out noon, or out 11am in 1pm at worst). I understand other countries are 11am, 2-3pm. Japan is usually less generous, at 11am-4pm. This capsule hotel takes it to the extreme, IMO. Check in at 5PM and check out at 10AM. So you have 17 hours out of 24 hours. It's really is so little time. Two showers on the first floor only. Okay I understand this is Japan, and Japan for Japanese people. But Kyoto is a destination with many foreign tourists who might want to take a shower instead of the Japanese bath. Sharing two showers with probably around 200 people is not enough. Espeically if the check out time is so stringent as well. Also no bath or shower on the 2nd or 3rd floor. Must go to the first floor. Location. I think most tourists would want to be near Pontocho. If not then at least near a subway. This hotel is near Nijojo, a tourist destination. But it is not near the subway. Probably the nearest one is around 800m. You can take the bus though.
Conclusion: It is a very cool concept and I'm glad I stayed. But many...

Read moreThis was my first experience at a capsules hotel. I was so excited to check in. What surprised me is the check-in time at this hotel, at 5 pm, not a 1 min before. It was very frustrating as the check-out from my hotel in Tokyo was at 10 am, so I was homeless for 7 hours with my luggage. I tried to spend some time in Tokyo before going to the train station and I slowly begun my journey to Kyoto in order to arrive at check in-time. I arrived at 4 pm exhausted, wanting a cold shower and a bed, but the hotel staff didn't allow me to check in until its precisely five. I left my luggage there and went for lunch, came back at 5 and checked in. To my very surprise, most rooms were empty. So there was not a reason for refusing to check me in early. ||The rooms were tiny but spotless and there's a beautiful common area with a coffee machine and snacks that I really loved. Many people occupied that room and I got to meet wonderful people. The bathrooms were spotless and spacious and I enjoyed my stay in the hotel. There's even a money exchange machine at the reception. Very nice experience and overall stay. ||The only issue is the check in time. Hotel management should change it to 3 pm just like any other hotel and be more flexible with clients traveling long distances. I know rules are rules but empathy...
