SONGBIRD COFFEE — Restaurant in Kyoto

We stumbled across this cute spot (it is on the 2nd floor) in search for coffee right around 10:30am. The delicious scent of curry hit us as we walked in, it smelled so fragrant and fresh. We had no intention of eating a full meal then but had to try it and were not disappointed.

I got the chicken curry with an omelet on top and a matcha banana shake with soy milk. The curry was so delicious and clearly homemade. You could see some of the small bits of spices in the curry. The presentation represented a birds nest was also cute. The egg was perfectly cooked and soft, the chicken was moist. It was so yummy. The Matcha Banana Shake was also extremely delicious. It did taste more like banana than Matcha but the combination of the two complimented each other well and the bananas used were clearly ripe as it had a nice sweetness to it.

My partner got the set curry with the egg sandwich and a coffee. He said the coffee was delicious and well brewed and he loved his set.

The two women working there were very nice and the atmosphere was open yet comforting. We sat by the window where you could watch the street and there was lots of natural light. To pay, you go up to the register.

I highly recommend this place even if you are only going for drinks but I warn you, the smell of curry may convince you otherwise to eat and you will not be disappointed! I hope to eat at this...

Songbird Coffee has been on my radar for quite some time now but the hours make it more suitable for a lunch time visit than for breakfast. Two of their signature items are the curry rice and egg sandwiches which was being offered as a set during my visit.

The egg sandwich is superb with a fluffy and yummy egg and just the right amount of bread. They also have a chicken curry served with an egg with a runny yolk which was decent.

I would probably go back for their egg sandwiches if I were to...

We were looking for an afternoon pick-me-up on our way to Nijo Castle. I saw the word "coffee" on a small pink sign by the door. We went upstairs and smelled curry instead of caffeine.

We ordered an iced coffee and a banana matcha shake. Both were disappointing. The coffee beans tasted too burnt. I didn't taste any banana or matcha in my shake. It's also very watery.

When I read reviews on Google, they got lots of praise for the food. Might be a better idea to stick to that and...
