The guest house is located in the vicinity of some major shrines. and a 3 minute walk from the bus station. At first that you enter the alley which the guesthouse is located in, you feel like the place cannot be good at all as there is a very slight slope over there. But as soon as you arrive there, you are overwhelmed by the coziness of the place. The owner and his wife who speak English fluently are so kind and considerate that you would not prefer to stay anywhere else. I stayed here for 3 nights+1 night. As I extended my travel in Kyoto. The rooms and the house area is tiny (which is typical in Japan) but extremely clean and beautiful. I liked the Japanese mattress as I am used to sleeping on hard ones. The room had everything one might need. Proper air conditioning, bath set, a container for hot or cold water, different types of the tea etc. The shared kitchen has a fridge from which you can drink juice or iced coffee for free. The owner is there from the noon to the late evening so the guests are there by their own the rest of the day which was cool to me. Some might say the walls are too thin but again this is really common in Japan. They offer you earplugs. I used them and slept like a baby. The shared bath room and rest room are clean as well. All sorts of shampoos and other itineraries are there. The owners are extremely kind and polite. They helped me with lots of other issues which was not their duty at all like sending my luggage to Osaka etc. The owner took me one night to a breathtaking scenery outside the city which really made my day. He also gave many beautiful Kyoto pics to me. I really enjoyed staying in this place and would definitely come here again if...

Read moreI had an absolutely wonderful stay at Engawa Guesthouse in Kyoto! Mr. Li, the host, was incredibly welcoming and made our experience memorable. The spacious and traditional room with two beds was perfect for us, providing a comfortable and authentic atmosphere.
One of the highlights of our stay was when Mr. Li generously offered to drive us to a temple ceremony, allowing us to immerse ourselves in Kyoto's rich cultural heritage.
The guesthouse's friendly atmosphere, thanks to both the host and the other guests, made our trip even more enjoyable. We had the chance to socialize and exchange travel tips, which greatly enriched our experience in Kyoto.
The amenities, such as the laundry facilities and comfortable bedroom, were much appreciated, as they allowed us to plan our day ahead and explore the city with ease.
Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Engawa Guesthouse to anyone visiting Kyoto, especially if you are a single traveler or a couple. The warm hospitality, traditional ambiance, and opportunities to connect with fellow travelers make this guesthouse a top choice for an unforgettable stay in Kyoto. Thank you, Mr. Li, for making our time in Kyoto...
