Date of Stay: April 22 - 29, 2024. My and I stayed at this hotel and we will definitely come back again! The staff are very nice and helpful. Yuma speaks English very well and nice. Shijo (I hope I spelled that right) even filled my luggage transfer form in Japanese so it will get to the other hotel on time. Tomoko the night front desk staff duty is so so helpful and accomodated all my requests from chopsticks, to a knife, and even gave us a special tea gift in a very cute container (thanks Tomoko!) and also Shijo gave us a complimentary going away cookies (I didn’t eat but will preserve because of the design, lol). There is free water, cold drinks, coffee, at the ground floor until 11pm. There is a vending machine outside, but when I was about to go and buy some water late at night, Nishita, the older gentleman (late night duty), stopped me and gave me a water bottle! Wow! Such a sweet nice man! Now let me tell you about the rooms - very spacious (I don’t have to tell you about how small the rooms are in Japan). Very clean. Beds are comfortable, bathroom is clean and I used the Japanese bathtub with of course the complimentary bath salts(different flavors). Location, location, location! Walking distance, I mean walking distance (not other reviews of a hotel that say it’s walking distance and you end up walking 20 minutes!) to Kiyomizu-dera (a must see in Kyoto, and other sites like Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka paths, etc. You have to stay here when you visit Kyoto, you...
Read moreThe hotel is far away from Kyoto Station. After getting off the Shinkansen, it takes more than half an hour to transfer to the subway or walk. It is recommended to take a taxi. The fare is about 1,000 yen. Walking up from the hotel is the 2nd and 3rd-year-old hills. Go down and turn right and you will reach Hanamikoji. It is basically in the center of the scenic spot. If you are traveling independently, you can consider it. The facilities in the room are complete, clean and tidy, and there is a welcome card handwritten by the staff. The old man at the front desk was very enthusiastic. He helped us carry our luggage as soon as the taxi arrived. He also bought us water and sent us to the door of the room. The service attitude was very good. It rained heavily that day, and the Shinkansen was out of service. We missed the check-in time. We called the hotel first, but the front desk asked us for 400 yen (200 per person) when we checked out. It seemed that it was because we missed the check-in time. So there is a fee, because I was in a hurry and didn’t ask clearly, and it seems that the platform didn’t write it clearly. In any case, if you arrive late, you must call to inform us. The hotel has access control, otherwise you will not be...
Read moreReally enjoyed our stay here during our tour of Japan, the location is excellent for access to the close by shrines and not too far walk to a metro station to get to the main city centre. The staff were super welcoming and friendly and could not have been more helpful and hospitable. ||The hotel has a lovely roof terrace which we enjoyed using everyday in the beautiful weather and has great views of the shrines in the distance. The room was quite basic (more traditional Japanese) but was quite spacious and had a small terrace and aircon which we were grateful for as it was very warm in June. The bathroom was a typical small Japanese all in 1 unit with a powerful shower over a small bath, everything was super clean and tidy. ||Only downside for us was the bed which was a good size but it was super firm and we struggled to get a comfortable nights sleep, an option of a mattress topper or something softer would of been appreciated, but having slept on futons, matts, etc in Japan it can be quite typical. ||Overall though for the value, location, the roof terrace and wonderful staff I would recommend...
