Couldn’t resist going here after seeing it so much on social media.

First of, the staff is super nice. They all have a bright smile and even asked us if we want to take pictures with them. To me it seems like they really enjoy they work.

Since I’m not the biggest matcha fan I decided on the chocolate strawberry mochi. (1000Y)

It was probably the best mochi I ever ate. It’s super sweet and can stretch quite far when u take a bite. It also really sticks to your teeth so be careful if u smile at people while eating eat ;). Inside the mochi there is some kind of chocolate filling and on top of the mochi is the strawberry.

They also started with their mochi making show when we ordered and that is quite fun to watch.

The only bad thing in my option is that I find 1000 Yen quite a lot for one piece of mochi. I know it’s in the middle of a tourist road and they also want to make some money. However it feels like to me that you pay quite a bit just because this place got famous through social media. That’s why I deducted one star.

I had been disappointed earlier in the week after missing the famous mochi pounding in Nara, but luckily stumbled upon Mochi Mochi in Kyoto’s Gion district—and it completely made up for it.

The mochi here is definitely on the expensive side, but it’s probably the best I’ve ever tried. I ordered the chocolate mochi topped with a fresh strawberry—soft, chewy, and incredibly flavorful.

What really makes this place stand out is the experience. The “Mochi Man” pounds the mochi right in front of you and takes time to chat with guests during his breaks. It’s a great mix of performance and tradition, and a fun stop if you’re in the area.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a unique food experience in Kyoto.

I was already a bit overwhelmed from the mass of people and the cold wind when we were going past this small shop, and I have to say: The best mochi you can find in Japan! If you are going to this street, this mochi is your nr. one thing to try there. This was the best thing for me on that street, and the staff there gave me a wonderful memory.

The strawberry was fragrant and sweet! The mochi itself like biting into a soft velvet. The macha flavor was perfect and not too much or little. The filling was also amazing and just right. I'm already missing it!

The staff were so super nice and sweetđŸ„čđŸȘ·âœšïž The women were so beautiful and clearly skillful, and the man's arm muscles were a sight to see!

Thank you for giving us a nice memory from that...

This place is on the way up the hill to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. It’s super fun! They are making the mochi fresh in front of you! It’s a show they are putting on! The mochi was the best dessert we had all trip. We got it on the way to the temple and it was so good, we got it again on the way back down! There is conflicting info about hours on here and google. I totally forgot to ask them and confirm! If someone else sees this, can we try to confirm hours? I wasn’t sure if they were open at 10 or 12. This is super important when planning and for people traveling. The mochi was 6 stars if I could! I’m glad we ended up making it here. Fresh Mochi is WAAAAY better than the boxed stuff!! And it’s all Vegan!
