I stayed here for two nights at the Ume room on the first floor with a beautiful little garden. My room was so spacious. I travelled solo and enjoyed the two futon set up kindly provided by the owner. They could set up one futon, but they thought I came with another person haha.
The owners, wife and husband, with one English-speaking staff were so kind and helpful. The owner showed me a shortcut to the nearest supermarket, and they recommended some places to visit. She politely offered a yukata or a kimono to rent if you are interested.
The place was so clean and neat. The shared bathroom and toilet were equally clean and neat. I was provided with body towels, face towels, pyjamas to wear, and the shared bathroom was complete with shampoo, conditioner, and soap. I could use the washing and drying machines for my clothes for 300 yen, much needed in the summer season. The room had a nice AC, a comfy sofa, and the futon was so fluffy and comfy. I slept like a log. Its an honor to be able to stay and enjoy a traditional Japanese house. Its 30-50 minutes to tourist destinations around Kyoto, but I did not mind, given the closeness to the bus station and enjoyed commuting.
Please, for the next guest, to also take care of this 100-year-old house. They put a few sayings here and there to help us care, for example, not dragging our luggage on the delicate tatami. This place is for those who like quietness and are able to keep be quiet and respectful. Thank you so much! I...
Read moreI'm really glad I had the chance to stay at the over 100 year old Guesthouse Hana Nishijinâit's a beautiful and charming place that left a great impression, even though I only stayed for one night. The decor is lovely, with traditional touches that reflect the rich history of the area. The garden is particularly beautiful and adds to the peaceful, authentic atmosphere.
The location is excellentâclose to major Kyoto attractions and very convenient for our day trip. Despite its central spot, it felt quiet and relaxing, offering a nice retreat.
The traditional tatami mats and bedding were surprisingly comfortableâfar more than we expected. Itâs clear a lot of thought has gone into preserving an authentic experience while ensuring guest comfort.
That said, I wouldn't recommend it for your full stay. While it's perfect for a night or two, the setup may not be ideal for a longer visit, depending on your needs.
Highly recommend this guesthouse for a short stay to get a taste of traditional Kyoto...
Read moreWhat a fantastic place to stay. I asked our previous hotel to call and ask if I could drop off my bags before check-in. Instead, they came and picked me up and drove me to the home stay. They are very accommodating, used google translate to communicate, are extremely friendly and helpful. They explained everything and recommended a very nice sushi restaurant for lunch. They showed me where I could rent a bike, which was helpful as I was able to ride to a garden that had Sakura in bloom when everyone advised the season was over. I highly recommend staying here, and although it says it's 2 stars, I would say it's better than most places. Comfortable, spacious, and...
