The elder lady who owns/runs Ryokan Uemura is just about the sweetest person I met on my trip to Japan. And while the interior of the ryokan shows signs of age, every detail relating to the comfort and enjoyment of my stay was immaculate. For example, the owner laundered my dirty clothing without being asked, remembered that I preferred coffee over tea and served it to me with my breakfast the second (and final) morning of my stay, brought me both newspapers (in English) with my breakfast and every spout in the showerhead functioned flawlessly, among other things. The ryokan was relatively expensive, but you are paying for the brilliant location in historic Ginza. It is like being transported to a different world! The stunning serene Kodaiji Zen temple is a just stone's throw away and if you are lucky like us, you will hear and see the monks coming by for alms. Staying here was a highlight for us and we hope to...
