Comfortable futons on tatami matting. Great traditional ryokan room. Washing machine & drier available along with small kitchen and fridge which was useful as we stayed for 6 nights. Good wifi connection in communal areas & probably most rooms. Our room was at the end of a corridor and therefore tended to struggle.||No ensuite but good quality shower rooms and toilets and we didn't have to wait despite it being a very busy week for travelling in Japan. Also hair dryers available in the shower rooms and a drying rack for clothes.||The ryokan doesn't offer food which is different to most but given the local options that's not an issue for us. ||Be aware that the ryokan doesn't store luggage before/after your stay. They offer a paid-for service with an external company that can do this for you-we didn't use though so can't review.||Good access into Kyoto from either the bus which stops 1 minute walk away or the subway (Kitajoi) which is a 5-10 minute walk. There are plenty of good Japanese food options locally (izakaya, tempura, sushi, teppanyaki) and a Starbucks, KFC & the golden arches if you have a hankering for western food.||Finally just be aware that, potentially typically of ryokans, you're expected to be extremely quiet at all times. This wouldn't be an easy place to stay with young kids because the owners are fastidious about keeping the...

Read moreAbsolutely wonderful!||It's an old house, but with absolutely modern, even luxurious toilets and showers (with soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer under the sink), and many of them, too. The rooms are old japanese style, that means: tatami, futon and zabuton (cushions to sit on), as well as electric water kettle and tea bags and biscuits. You have a little refrigerator, hangers, table, shelf in the room as well as a yukata and towels.||If you want, they clean the room every day. There's a little room functioning as kitchen with cutlery and a microwave.||The garden outside at the entrance as well as inside (only able to see from room) is adorable, Japanese style, very nice.||Everything is very clean and the lobby with the sitting are offers lots of information and everything is nicely decorated.||They pay you the taxi to drive to from the subway station (10-15 min by foot). Bus stops are just 100 m away from the hotel to take you to the main attractions. There is a big supermarket near the hotel, as well as a post office, restaurants etc. The ryokan gives you a very good map of the surroundings.||As usual, Japanese houses have thin walls as everywhere in Japan, so the use of ear plugs is recommended.||The price is very good for this kind of service (pay cash and you get a little discount, too) and I will stay there everytime...
