I was pleasantly surprised by my stay here. I went in with the expectation of a business hotel with an attached onsen - and it definitely was that, but it was also a lot more than that.
Location is also so vital to any accommodation and Dormy Inn Matsuyama is smack-dab in the center of an adequately-sized open-air (but covered) shopping arcade with nearby combini, fast food joints, and small-town cafes and restaurants. Sidelined outside the arcade are multiple izakaya and the like. It's also less than a block away from Donki, and a few blocks further are hobby shops, stationary shops, clothing shops, tourist shops touting the city's prized goodies (mikan and everything you can make with it, towels, etc.). I cannot help gushing that this location is just pure perfection.
The room itself is a very standard business hotel room. Spacious to a good degree with a small bathroom and attached toilet. Bed is springy and pillows are very firm for those who love a firm pillow. A/C was great.
The onsen is on the top floor where opposing sides serve men and women. There is also a lounge area with free massage chairs and goodies post-soak. The onsen is natural waters, and you can tell after a good soak! Your skin becomes softer and smoother. And a tiring day's worth of body aches go away or dissipate after a good soak. (There is also an open foot bath located at their front entrance!)
The staff were all very polite and helpful. They are available at all times of the day to help assist.
At the end of the day, my stay was so comfortable and relaxing that I wished I had booked another night just to...
Read moreThis Dormy Inn is a bit more than a year old and located in the Okaido covered shopping street a couple of streets south of the castle area. I was a bit early, but I was made to wait until the 3pm check- in time. No matter, the Okaido and the adjoining Ginten Gai are very prosperous, covered shopping streets, full of people and good shops, good for a stroll until check- in.||I got Room 1207, a double room with a view west. The room was nicely done, Dormy- style with a sink in the entrance hall and a walk- in shower with a closing door, no tub. For those wanting a good soak, there’s a public bath on the 13th floor with separated men’s and women’s bath areas.||The bedding was excellent and the room was very quiet. The windows opened so fresh air helped. There’s no road noise, and 12F is too far above the many local bars and restaurants to be loud. The duvet on the bed was top- notch. The toilet and shower were bright and clean, latest fittings, very well done. The internet was swift.||There are lots of thoughtful touches, like a clear guide to the air con and TV remote controls!||Breakfasts at Dormy Inns are variable. The one in Otaru is fabulous; this one was just – well, meh. For the price, I thought it was not such a bargain and I should have gone down the street to the Pronto, who do a great job for cheap.||They offer one free beer and all the ramen you want on 13F in the small bar area. The beer machine is the new Asahi Tornado, which you have to see to believe. Further beers were a bargain 300yen.||All in all, they do an excellent job, though they are pushing the price...
Read moreCompared to Dormy Inn Premium in Kyoto this one is brilliant. Bright white rooms, not dark ugly brown like Kyoto, and the A/c here worked!|I would first like to compliment Ms.Azusa Kouno who went above and beyond to help me. She spoke very good English and when more complicated help was needed she used voice translation on her phone. Nothing was too much trouble for her. I hope Dormy Inn Matsuyama appreciate this excellent employee and reward her for her great representation of the hotel.|This hotel is bright and clean. Breakfast is excellent with many choices....my favorite was the grilled sea bream. Onsen was great but did get a little crowded early morning as one would expect. I loved both the indoor and outdoor onsens and even braved the cold bath....up to my knees...lol.|Ms. Azusa Kouno forwarded my luggage to Kansai Airport with no problems, even wrote down exactly where to pick them up. The taxi is around $7 from the JR Station and they dropped me at the back door. The next morning I found out why....the front of the hotel is in the middle of a covered pedestrian only mall. Big surprise for me!|If I ever return to Matsuyama I will definitely...
