Staying at the Hyatt Regency Naha using 6k hotel points and $75USD per night.  This was a great option due to the location and redemption value.

Using Hyatt's Cash and Points Redemption:

At a Category 3 Hyatt, that’s 6000 World Of Hyatt points + $75USD per night. The cash rate for the hotel was about $300/night which makes using points a no brainer.  You could also value the cost of this stay to be about $140/night, but after looking at the hotel prices in Naha I knew I wasn't going to get a better deal.

With my rental car, I drove right to the front of the hotel and was hit with a warm welcome.  They helped take my luggage out of the car and walked me to the front desk. They were about the valet park the car but I asked them to keep it out front since I’d be going to return the car soon.

Checking In At The Hyatt Regency Naha:

Checking in went smoothly, they upgraded me from a standard room (what you get on points) to a Deluxe room for being a platinum member. I’m only a platinum member because I have the Chase Hyatt credit card.  They told me they received an envelope addressed to me (I ordered a JR pass) and would bring it up to my room with the luggage.

Room 1107:

The room had two beds. I asked for a room with only one bed at the front desk but they told me all rooms have two beds.  Hmm, I guess that makes more sense since they can accommodate more people. They offered to push the beds together so I could have one SUPER BED. With a calm and cool demeanor, I accepted this offer.

Using the Laundry Machines:

I really like the this Hyatt had laundry machines that you could use yourself. I NEVER pay for laundry service at hotels that charge a "per item" rate.  If they didn't have one, I was going to find a laundromat somewhere in the city.

The laundry machine was really cool! It was one large unit that WASHED and DRIED your clothes.  At a cost of 500JPY for a 3kg load.  You can add more than 3kg but your clothes probably won’t dry as quickly.

This was convenient since you wouldn't have to go back to the machine to move your clothes from the washer to the dryer.  Although, it did take 2-3 hours for this to finish.  They had one of these laundry machines on almost every even floor of the hotel.

The Pool:

It's hot and humid in Okinawa so the pool is always a good option. The pool is located several floors up from the ground so you get a nice city view as you swim around.

Location:

The absolutely best thing about staying at this hotel was the location.  There is an immense amount of places to eat around this hotel.  I didn't eat at any of the restaurants in the hotel since all the really good places were outside.  The hotel is located at a 5-10 minute walk from the city's only tram and a 2-minute walk from the Kokusai Dori, the main street where you can find all the restaurants and places to shop!  I would have hung out here a week...

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the room and the hotel, especially given that the rest of Naha isn’t the most upscale feeling place, however this hotel does feel like you’re paying for a premium property. I stayed for two nights and visited the hotel bar on the 18th floor the first night – the bar was very nice, with a piano player and sweeping views of Naha (which is frankly better to look at during the night). A couple of criticisms – when I checked in I asked the person who checked me, twice, about making sure that the VAT would be removed from my room charge given that my employer is tax exempt – at first the staff at the check-in desk looked at my tax exemption card and gave it back not acknowledging what I said. I then reiterated my question and handed my card back, he then acknowledged my question, made a copy of my card, and left it at that. Upon check-out, I asked why the tax had not been removed from the room to which I was told that the hotel is not registered with the appropriate government office – all fine, but the staff at check-in should have known this and overall this is a major significant knowledge error. One other issue was with the hotel AC, it’s still sort of cool in Okinawa (although not cold), so when I checked into my room the heat was on – however, it wasn’t cold enough to need heat. I eventually switched the room to AC when I went to bed, but the room was quite warm all through the night. I left the AC at its lowest setting (which was 19 degrees Celsius), and when I returned later in the day the room was quite cool. Either way, not sure what the issue was but it was rather annoying the first night. Overall though, I would stay at this hotel again if in Naha for work, and if you’re in Naha for tourism, it’s not far from the famous “Kokusai door (or...

Terrible experience at Hyatt Regency Naha We recently stayed at this hotel and the experience was absolutely unacceptable. In the middle of the night, while we were sleeping, a huge cockroach crawled up my partner’s leg in bed. It was 11 pm. We had to pack everything and go down to the lobby in our pajamas to ask for a room change. The first reaction from the staff was to tell us that “cockroaches are very common in Okinawa.” Excuse me? Maybe outside on the streets, but certainly not in the bed of a supposedly upscale Hyatt Regency hotel. They moved us to another room, but of course, the night was ruined. It was impossible to sleep thinking another cockroach could appear. The next morning, we politely explained the awful night we had and asked if there was any way to compensate us. We made it clear we weren’t asking for a refund, but at least some gesture — Hyatt points, or covering some of the breakfasts we had paid for. The manager came out to speak with us, and his “compensation” was to allow late check-out until 2 pm… when we had already told them we needed to leave early for our next destination. Finally, at check-out, the only thing they gave us was a small bag of chocolates with some nuts and two drinks. Honestly, it felt like a joke. Bottom line: • Unacceptable hygiene, no guest should ever have this kind of experience in their hotel bed. • Ridiculous compensation for such a serious incident. • While breakfast was good and most staff were polite, that does not make up for the lack of basic cleanliness and the poor way the situation was handled. We left extremely disappointed. Needless to say, we will never return to this hotel, nor would we recommend it to anyone.
