Steak Matsuya — Restaurant in Naha

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. It was just by chance and luck that we found this restaurant. It is small and we noticed a big line outside the restaurant as we left our hotel across the street (Hyatt Regency in Naha). We went as soon as the restaurant opened on a week day and managed to avoid a line. We ordered a rib steak and the combo of beef skirt steak, beef tongue and Agu pork. I have to say the tongue and pork surpassed our expectations. While the beef was delicious as well, we would order just the beef tongue and pork next time as they were of exceptional flavor and texture. A hot stone is provided on the hot plate as well, so that you can grill the meet further if you prefer the meat more well done. The stone was replaced during the meal to ensure we could grill the meat throughout our visit. Rice, soup and cabbage salad are included and unlimited (serve yourself). The service was great, and though we do not speak Japanese, we felt welcomed and that our business was appreciated. The portions are small compared to the average steak restaurant in North America, but I believe the quality is superior and we left quite happy with the food and overall experience. I had a steak craving and this place really hit the spot. Their ribeye steak was tender, juicy, fatty without being too fatty and the meat was really tasty! It comes out already seared and cooked, but if you prefer your steak other than medium rare, you can cook it yourself on the tiny hot stone on your plate. They provide a bit of beef fat to cook it in tooanf if needed they swap the hot stones to give you a fresh one that's piping hit. There are 3 sauces to choose from and I had the red wine sauce. It was rich, flavorful, not too salty and it went really well with the steak. Also, there is a small buffet you where you can make a small salad, get some white rice or a bowl of beef tendon broth. The salad was nice, thinly scredded cabbage and carrot and some seaweed with onion dressing. The beef broth was rich, lots of flavor. Lots of beef and onion. It was a great meal! Stopped in because it was raining and they were across the street from the hotel. I was blown away with my steak. They bring out on tray with hot metal hockey puck size cooking block. They swapped it out mid away through meal. Unbelievably great idea. The homemade steak sauce was great and service was great. Highly, highly recommend!
