I stayed at this hotel when I visited the Kansai region with my siblings a couple weeks ago.
Good things first: the room we stayed in was fine. It was comfortable and clean and spacious enough for 3 adults. My only complaint would be that the hotel does not provide extra blankets/comforters, even when they have fresh towels and pillows and sets of pajamas daily. I know they aren't exactly equal in value... but idk... I don't think extra blankets is that big of an ask.
breakfast and the welcome bar service is fine. It's basically a buffet. Sometimes the staff seats you and sometimes you seat yourself. Either way, I like their selection of food. As for the welcome bar, they provide the drinks and cups and recipes, but if you want a cocktail, you make it yourself. I think it can be fun haha
the onsen was fine. I didn't have any issues with the facilities there. I kind of wish the hot water was hotter, but it was fine.
the staff are friendly and helpful for the most part
Now my major complaint... it's a bit of a story: Because the hotel emails patrons beforehand to do a last confirmation, I replied to their email to ask if they accepted non-Japanese credit cards, and they confirmed that they do. So I expected check-in to not be a big deal. However, when I went through the check-in process, the card reader they use at their big self-check-in station desk thing denied my card. It denied pretty much all of my cards and my siblings' cards. Then the front desk clerk told us to get cash. Who TF has 6 figures of yen in cash on them???? But we seemed to not have any other choice, so we went to 7-11 to get cash (and that was another struggle because apparently 7-11 ATMs hate non-Japanese cards too), got the amount needed, and went back to the hotel... Only for the hotel staff to tell me AFTER I went through all this struggle that they had an alternate card reader that they use at their main/staff front desk that I could try. Lo and behold, that one worked fine with the card I wanted to use. I actually took a second to scream because I was so stressed out. Basically... (1) please get it together when it comes to the tech and (2) if there was an alternate, maybe try to catch me before I leave and make unnecessary withdrawals.
Also, while the hotel's location isn't horrible, it can be a bit of a walk from the station (5-10 minutes from exit 9 of Awaza Station... but exit 9 has 3 flights of stairs, so the walk can be tiring if you were out all day. I would personally recommend using exit 4 for less stairs, though you do need to walk a little more on the street).
But anyway, all in all, the hotel was fine. I do appreciate that there's a 7-11 right next door, even if the 7-11 ATMs refuse to let me use most...
Read moreThis was my first time to stay at this hotel, but Super Hotel is one of Japanese famous hotel brands. I do not say the location is very convenient for most Americans, unless he/she is very used to Japanese cities. But if you visit Japan on tourism, I think it is worth while staying here. Check-in procedures and luggage keeping service are highly automated, rooms are unlocked by a secret PIN code. Equipped with a large Japanese style public bath. I mean there is something more interesting than just being comfortable and relaxing. Visited again and noticed they offered a welcome drink service. They had a variety of drinks available, including wine, beer, and Japanese sakes of rice wine, and we can help ourselves. Maybe they had the same service when I had visited there before, but I did not notice that. This time, the front staff told me to help myself to enjoy a welcome drink and I did that. To be honest, I was not sure if I liked Japanese sake or not, but having a chance to sample them was a fun to find...

Health concerns staying in this hotel may increase your risk of cancer. Do not stay here if you have asthma or breathing problems. The entire Hotel randomly reeks of tobacco smoke even slipping into the room at night or in the middle of the onsen. This is a tragedy created by big tobacco. Extremely disappointing for how consistent the air is polluted by tobacco inside the hotel. I tried telling the front desk and nothing has changed. I can smell it in the hallway right outside my room daily.
The breakfast is also not worth it. Anyone who ends breakfast at 9:00 a.m. is crazy in my opinion. scrambled eggs run out, then they close the buffet.
The hotel could be five stars if they paid more attention to these issues. Overall I...
