Airbnb Review: A Nightmare Stay in Osaka
I was initially excited about my stay at this Airbnb in Osaka, but that excitement quickly turned into deep disappointment the moment I stepped inside. The entrance was cluttered with stockpiled junk and scrap, immediately setting a terrible first impression. Worse, an unbearable stench filled the entire space, making it nearly impossible to ignore.
The walls were covered in marks that clearly could have been cleaned with a little effort, yet they remained filthy. As I entered the rooms, I was shocked to find the closets stuffed haphazardly with unorganized blankets and futons, all carrying the same foul odor that permeated the house. The bedsheets and pillow covers reeked so badly that we had no choice but to gather everything from all the rooms and rush to the nearest coin laundry just to make them bearable.
Realizing we couldn’t spend the night in such filth, we rushed to a 100-yen store to buy cleaning supplies—deodorizer, cleaning wipes, and chlorine for the bathroom. We wiped down the walls, scrubbed the stairs, cleaned the bathroom, wiped the floors, and even had to clean the messy dining table ourselves. The lack of basic cleanliness was beyond unacceptable.
To make matters worse, the host’s only concern seemed to be whether the air conditioning was turned off. Before leaving for lunch and to buy cleaning supplies, we deliberately left the ACs on to keep the place warm. However, without our knowledge, the staff entered the apartment and turned them all off. Instead of ensuring basic hygiene, they seemed obsessed with monitoring the AC usage, completely ignoring the actual problems with the property.
Adding to the frustration, a staff member rushed over—not to address our complaints, but simply to collect an alleged “remaining balance,” even though the entire payment had already been made online. What a shady and unprofessional way to run a business.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, when we removed the bed sheets, we discovered mold and dirt on the futons. Disgusted, we separated the worst ones, kept only the least offensive, and covered them with the freshly washed and dried linens we had cleaned ourselves.
This experience was beyond exhausting. For the price we paid, we expected a clean and livable space, not a rundown, foul-smelling, and neglected apartment that we had to deep-clean ourselves just to endure the stay. This was one of the worst Airbnb experiences I’ve ever had, and I would never recommend this place to anyone. Avoid at all costs.

Read moreThe location is very good, near to the Awaza Station. But the house were not upkeep in a reasonable condition as a paid lodging. We found an outdated directory and shown that the host has put lots effort initially but not in up-keeping. To avoid moving around, we swept and wipe-out the floor. Clean the dishes and cleared the waste from previous stay. We even bought air freshener as the bad odor from the waste...
Read moreGreat building, close to station. Only issue is that the owner came into the apartment when we went to the convenience store without notice and would probably not have told us of his visit if we had not seen him exiting when we returned. I don't know if this is a difference in culture, but I don't enjoy when someone comes into a room I'm staying in without...
