Dormitory Sandanya Guesthouse — Hotel in Shirahama

This guesthouse has soul. I ended up staying 4 nights and could have stayed more. The owner Masaaki is absolutely lovely and a great cook! He's a great source of informations about the surroundings and also about Japan. He¡'ll do his utmost to make your stay perfect.My room was really nice with 2 windows from which I could see the sea. The dining room cum shop is so interesting with all its mambo jumbo of objects. The place is super clean, good kitchen if you wish to cook for yourself (but you'll miss out on Masaaki's food!), good wine to be bought on the premises. All in all a very nice place to stay. I went hiking on the kumano kodo from there, for one day's walk, and also went onsen hoping. Shiharama is a really nice laid back town but staying at Sandanya Guest house made it very...

We stayed in the 3 bedroom house and it was really well-provisioned. You could just move in with your clothes and with a shopping trip to the supermart, you would be able to enjoy all kinds of meals and refreshments in the fully equiped kitchen, dining, living and bedroom quarters. Sleeping rooms are upstairs and the bath, kitchen and living/dining rooms are downstairs. It is very well-kept and clean and comfortable. Truly a place you would want to call home. It was among the best stay we had and I wish I had stayed longer.

This guesthouse is very clean and tidy, has kitchen facilities but also prepare food for guests if you want.||It is located right oppodite Sandanbeki bus stop in Shirahama (buses connecting to kumano kodo and other places in/around Shirahama). It is 2-3 km away from the city centre.||It is very cheap compared to the other hotels in Shirahama and also very convenient.||There are (spotless clean) shared toilets and showers. The room doors are made of rice paper, so you will probably want to have earplugs and sleeping mask in high season when there are other guests.||The owner really made our stay memorable.
