Four Seasons — Hotel in Takayama

I was a little apprehensive about this hotel when I booked it. After booking Tokyo and Kyoto hotels, this seemed too cheap. It is a budget hotel clearly but I couldn’t have been happier with it. The staff were kind and caring- proactively making helpful suggestions about places to visit. The location was also good- within walking distance of the station and also all the sights. There is also an Onsen in the hotel itself which is a nice way of experiencing some local practices. At this stage, let me also just say how incredible I found Takayama. A small city but with so much to offer, mainly in the form of unbelievable natural beauty. Definitely...

Colpisce la cura dei piccoli dettagli in camera, dal set per l'onsen agli accessori da bagno ai taccuini fino alle caramelle. La stanza è ampia a sufficienza per una coppia, letto e bagno ottimi, l'onsen è ben tenuta anche se piccola, per loro stessa ammissione di cui si scusano in un foglietto in giapponese nell'ascensore (letto dalla mia compagna): divisa in m/w, una vasca per 5-6 persone, aperta fino all'1 di notte (quando l'ho fatta io alle 22 non c'era nessuno); ma dato che Takayama è una delle più belle cittadine da visitare, vicina a Shirakawa-go, non abbiamo sentito la mancanza di una onsen migliore. La colazione è esclusa, costa 6 euro circa, ma hanno una macchina del caffè (De Longhi) alla reception dove ci si può fare il caffè gratis ogni volta che si vuole! E la colazione è tanto più suggestivo farla al mercatino giornaliero lungo il fiume. ||Sicuramente ci tornerei, anche per la gentilezza della reception, persino superiore ai già altissimi standard giapponesi, in particolare della ragazza sempre sorridente del mattino. Ci hanno tenuto la valigia dopo il check-out e quando abbiamo chiesto la cortesia di portarci alla stazione degli autobus dato che pioveva e la valigia era un po' rotta, ci hanno accompagnato senza domandare extra. Old business hotel with welcoming staff. We walked to the hotel from the station and was a great base to explore the area. The room was small and basic but clean and had great views of the city (top level). There is a small onsen here too.
